I recently flashed my drive & now when I use Shrink to backup movies, my desktop won't stay online and/or it freezes up while operating. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks in advance.

Well, I know that Shrink will either close automatically, and/or shut down the entire computer if it's a new encryption.

Maybe this is the cause? What movie were you backing up when this occurred? If not, then I dunno.

What'd you do when you flashed your drive? There's always specific instructions attached to it and if you deviate from what is recommended, it could fudge with you in a bad way.

Could be any number of things, besides the flash. Here is a thread that list the causes of Shrink shutting down/freezing a computer, see if any of this applies or has something that will help.

I was trying to backup Grizzly Man, Thundercats, Gargoyles, Tamara, Munich, and some other titles but kept getting error messages. I have a Dell and have a NEC ND 3520-A DVD combo burner. I followed the instructions but got this problem as a tradeoff.

Did you dl your fw update from Dell, they have their own fw updates and Dell computers are proprietary in what they want.

No, I got the update from a suggested link from someone on this site. I bought the drive from newegg about a year ago.

Okay, so this was not a drive that came with your Dell, post the current firmware that you have on this drive.

NEC DVD_RW ND-3520A> Version: 1.04 was what I had when I could no longer backup movies. I updated it with version 3.05. Here's the link that somebody on the site directed me to: http://www.de.nec.de/softwareoverview2.php/id/557

I have AOL Dail-up and the message that I keep getting is that the modem is being blocked from connecting when I'm backing up DVDs.

Try doing a regclean, if you don't have one then CCleaner is free.

Have you been able to backup your movies, you really should not be on the internet when backing up. Shrink uses 100% of your processor and being on the internet while burning can cause errors.

You can always try an uninstall and reinstall of your modem, and also do a restore from your aol directory, it has this option in the system information folder of the aol program.

well.....................

you shouldn't be or want to be online, while you are doing
backups anyway..........

it's not a Shrink issue................

sounds like something to do with flashing your drive,
or a computer problem.............
