i recently downloaded DVD Shrink and followed the directions on how to use it on afterdawn.com, everything seemed to be going fine but after it was done and i tried to play the backed-up dvd on my dvd player it did not work, the dvd also does not work on my computer, it says it is a blank disc. Have i done something wrong or is it my dvd player?

DVDShrink will compress your movie to fit onto a blank DVD-5. DVDShrink does not burn your movie onto a disc, you will need a program like Imgburn(free) or Nero to burn.

@theclaw
Can you post the whole log (last one)? Easier that way.
Look here for them:
Nero 6: program files>ahead>nero>nerohistory
Nero 7: program files>nero>nero 7>core>nerohistory

Just be sure to edit out the serial # they begin w/ 1A,1C or 5C.
The logs are separated by something like this:
==== *** Nero-Burning Rom, History File *** ======
Just copy and paste what's in between the last one.

May just be a media and/or firmware issue.

What's the make and model of the drive? Looks like an Emprex/BTC.
Quote:
Disc Manufacturer ID: CMC MAG,
Probably you biggest problem. They are pretty hit or miss. If they burn then there's the playback problems.
For these I would burn at 4x - no higher.

Better to use would be Verbatim or made in Japan Fuji or Sony.

Since these are +R you should check and make sure your DVD players supports the +R format. Most do but some of the older ones don't.

512mb would be better but in the mean time alot is in use - no multi tasking and shut down any unneccessary processes.

Nero can use an update too - go up to 6.6.0.18 - the last version of 6 to autoburn w/ Shrink:
Package 1

Package 2 (Recode & Vision)

Ok I'm off for the night so I'll have to check tomm unless pazzini or another memeber checks for a later version.
Also need to check if the drive supports booktyping - this will help increase compatiblity with players.
In the mean time slow it down and try the other suggestions.
Even if there is a newer version - I'd still dump the CMC manufactured discs (been ther done that:). Makes less headaches in the long run.

Quote(They are pretty hit or miss)
Binkie7 is talking about the type of media u are using.
what is the brand name of the media u r using?

sorry if this sounds rude but, crap media = crap results,
bad media for example is, memorex which has Disc Manufacturer ID: CMC MAG, any media with this ID is not good.

maybe if u dont want 2 get different media try burning the ISO with ImgBurn which is free and see what happens

i have tried imgburn and DVD Decrypter nothing works. the brand name of the blank dvds is imation, im guessing they are useless because they didnt cost very much, but before i buy better ones how likely is it that the media is the problem? it seems to just not write at all because they dont even play on my PC

@300bowler
Txs for clarifying!!

@theclaw
Looks like you're using the latest firmware and from what I can find your drive doesn't support booktyping (makes the disc appear as a dvd-rom increasing playback compatibility).

It's probably your media - I would try some better ones 1st and we can go from there. See above post - I would suggest looking for 8x -R media.

The files that shrink creates to burn w/ Nero will be in a video_ts which is made up of the different files types like ifo,VOB & files.
Is this what your's show?
What movie are you doing?

Running AnyDVD in the background shouldn't have any affect on the burn.
