i was going to compare the two of programs for my own benefit. i am going to burn the same movie, same media, everything the same with the two differnt programs. see for myself which one is better. i was curious though, on Nero Recode 2 can you only burn the main movie, without all the menus and extras. if there is a thread can someone give it to me, because i cannot seem to find one. i am only going to burn main movie on each burn. i just have to know for myself which program is better. appreciate the help.

Shrink vs Recode2..... both programs were made with the same crew. I would think that Recode2 is better only because it's more up-to-date than Shrink and better produced.... can do more things than Shrink can. As far as transcoding..... well...... the eye of the beholder!

My vote's with Recode 2. My first choice. But Shrink is a worthy program that plays better with AnyDVD on some of the Sony movies. I use Shrink when Recode barfs.

Nero recode only has a slight edge when it comes to picture quality compared to Shrink.

The main difference of using Recode to Shrink is the transcoding times, Recode is faster than shrink. (not by much though)

@Halen..... the question was what's better: Recode2 or Shrink..... we all know that DVD-Rb is better than the both of them since DVD-RB with CCE/Procoder2 is an encoder that will do a much better job than any transcoder, anyday! So, yeah, I agree with you

i appreciate your help. i have now burned three movies with Recode, and also the same three with Shrink. i can honestly say that Recode have a bit better quality than Shrink, and recode is about 5 minutes fast than Shrink. just thought i would give everybody my 2 cents.

Shrink hasn't been updated for 2 yrs now..... Recode2 is updated regularly! NO COMPARISON..... Recode2 over Shrink!

Nero Recode 2 hands down for me. Make sure when using Nero Recode 2, under MORE, click on OPTIONS or Nero Recode Files and choose "Assign Best Quality to Main Movie". In addition, in prior to transcode the movie, choose "Advanced Analysis + HQSR", these 2 options will definitely gives you a better quality in results.

Good lucks to all and happy burning.

So, does Nero Recode 2 do the same thing as DVD Shrink because I have the latest Nero and DVD Shrink.

You can shrink the dvd and take out the "extras" with Recode 2?

MOON357,

Recode2 doesn't come with all versions of Nero 6. Only Nero 6 ultra and some versions of Nero 6 oem suite 3. It doesn't come with Nero 6 oem suites 1 or 2.

at this point, shrink and recode2 in term of quality output, are iqual. recode2 a little faster than shrink. they represent the best transcoders there are. i'm talking about quality output only of couse.

Nero Recode2 or Shrink using deep analysis and AEC/ fabdecrypter or anydvd running in the background/ IMGBurn to burn/main movie only mode= perfect.

I don't know about as far as what's the best Quality transcoder out there but, there's InterVideo DVDCopy4, CloneDVD2, DVDFab Platinum, hell even the famous 321 Studios DVDXCopy all great transcoders along with Shrink and Recode2. I can just take my pick which one I want (although I stopped using DVDXcopy!~). But as far as encoder.... hands down DVDRebuilder Pro w/CCE or ProCoder2! Best ripper..... DVDDecrypter. Best Windows based driver = AnyDVD hands down! Best disks.... Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim.....tied! I use them all for different situations when the need arises and I have great success due to learning everything here..... Afterdawn..... everyone taught me sooooooo much....... and you guys know who you are!!!!! Thanks...... and I'm so happy that I found this place! A place to learn and a place to give back!
