What happends when you burn too fast?

I've been reading a lot of posts lately and people seem to suggest burning movies at lower speeds. I've been burning at 16X for a week or two and havent really encountered a problem with the playback. I can understand the reasoning behind the slower speeds but what problems have people had that resulted from burning too fast?

Pixelization, hesitations and freezes are usually seen from burning too fast.....

Just to add to bilbo65's post - players may have a problem even playing the disc. They can be picky and burn speed is one factor.
One player may playback a 16x burned disc another may not.
Then depending on the quality of the media burned at 16x speed (along w/ the drive and firmware) may not be playable or have the problems bilbo65 mentioned sooner than later.

some disks will have poor quality if you burn too slow! The rated speed of the disk (like 8x disks) actually burn better at near the rated speed..... I usually burn at half the rated speed (4x for 8x disks). here is a read:

it's about 16x disks but they talk all about burn speeds and quality, etc.

right now I only use Taiyo Yuden DVD+R, 8x, inkjet hub printables, and silver printables. I just got a lightscribe burner and bought the Verbatim 16x LightScribe DVD+Rs. Like I said ... that article is a good read. Take the info and apply it to your needs. Whether they talk about Verbatim or not... it's a DVD disk. Use the info.

So 16x (TY DVD+R Full injet writable) should burn at 8x and 8x DVD+R should burn at 4x?

Thats a TY02 (8x) with a speed setting of 8x?? Hey is there infos on how t oread those graph the FAQ isnt helpful..do i need to burna disc to check its quality or can i just put a blank one in.

For myself, burning my Verbatim's (MCC code) at 16X also gives me a 95% Quality score (using the Benq as a reder) for both my LG4167 and Benq1640. Note that not all burners can run the Qualty Test (Benq yes, LG no).
CDFreaks reviews are a nice source for finding good media burner matches as they always test major media (at rated speeds) and score it.

What's the make and model of your burner? That can make a diff to burning at higher speeds and the quality of the burn you get.
Keep the firmware up to date also.
I burn 8x Taiyo at 8x - sometimes overburn at 12x. Verb 16x - any where from 8x - 12x. For my set up and many different players - no problems.
Yes you do need to burn to the disc b/4 running a scan.

I think with the GSA you can do a scan disc. Will tell you if any bad spots but doesn't give you the scores like the disc quality does.
My biggest test though is a year or more later still being able to rerip the copy.

Fire up Nero CD/DVD speeed and do a 'Transfer Rate" test. All burners/readers will do this test. A nice clean line in this test tells you if you've chosen the right media. If this test looks good rest assured you've burned a nice copy. You can do it in the original burner or another burner/reader. This test is every bit as meaningful as the quality scan.
Here's an older pic of a test showing a good media burner match.
Here's an example of a not so good media burner match. This is actually the same media before a firmware update.
Here's what crap media looks like, the typical problems that occur at the end.

Well when i put the dvd into my drive and select my drive on that Nero program i cannot press the button 'start'..so..
