I have a maddog external dvd recorder and I have tried to update the firmware. The problem is my computer doesn't reconize the maddog. When I go to device manager the drive is not named maddog it is named TSST. Can anyone give me any help on this?

Hi emsdad
Make sure the drive is connected and powered up. Look in 'my computer'.
Is the maddog showing there?
What problem do you have when trying to up date the firmware?

I am using the Maddog Megastor 16x triple format. The file version is 1.3.2.0. I am using the usb. It says that it can be used via a firewire. I am not sure what a firewire is. I have dvdcloner 3 and also AnyDVD programs. I have been told to get rid od the dvdcloner 3, I have not had it but a little over a month and I paid 40.00 so if I can use it I would like to. If I half to get another program I want this one to be the last one for awhile. I didn't really have any problems until I tried to back-up underworld 2, final dest 3, history of violence and an adult dvd. I have been yold that adult dvd's sometime do not back-up, is this true?
Thank You!!!

Ok your maddog last firmware version from what I can tell is 1F.0.
It's actually made by NEC.

Now the TSST part has me a bit confused. I'm thinking this is another drive you may have on the pc.
Have the mad dog connected - go into 'my computer' Right click on one of the drives than click on properties>hardware tab. Can you post a pick of this?

Firewire is just another to connect the drive to the pc - you would need a firewire cable and port. If you using 2.0 USB you ok.

You problems sounds like and media and or burn speed problem more than a software problem. What brand are you using and burn speed?

Now about the adult movies can't help you there - I would assume they would be but never done one so no clue :)

tsstcorp cd/dvdw sh-s162a usb dvd/cd-r

I set the recoerding speed at 4x-8x. I was told to set it at half the speed of my media. Is this correct?

No internal burner. The tsst is the Maddog. When I do not have it plugged into my laptop it doesn't show up. As soon as I plug it in it shows up TSST. Thank You for your help. I also see that Best buy has the verbatim on sale for 15.99 for 50 dvd/r. What is better + or -?

did u use DVD Decrypter to check ur firmware?

even though it says maddog on the box i think Samsung is the maker of it, again wait for binkie to confirm my theory.

well -R's are better if ur burner doesn't support Booktypeing, if it does support booktypeing than the +R's are better because it booktypes the +R to DVD-Rom which are more compatable with dvd playes

BTW that is a good deal on quality disks, cant go wrong with verbatims

Hey emsdad
Sorry bout that - understood your post :)
The driver # you listed is the windows driver - different from the firmware version. The firmware is inside of the burner (like an os in the drive that tells the drive how to read & write to media among other things).

This is not looking like a Mad Dog burner at all. A TSST as 300bowler pointed out. The latest firmware version for that also in his link above.
So I'm still confused on the Mad Dog/ TSST connection. Where did you get this drive?

The verbs you bought are fine - here in the states they are all made in Taiwan @ will be manufactured by MCC - good stuff. Verbatim is the exception to the rule :)

Before you buy CloneDVD let's get you burning 1st.

Download ImgBurn (free) and have ImgBurn detect the drive and firmware version you currently have.
Open ImgBurn - click mode than write. Look in the right hand screen you'll see your drive listed w/ the firmware version.
Your's will probably look something this:
tsstcorp cd/dvdw sh-s162a TU1 (usb)
http://www.imgburn.com/

Post that info back.

Oh and you can pop a blank in the drive & imgburn will give you the manufacturer info also.

Binkie,

I downloaded imgburn and did what you said. It says in the right hand side when I hit write:

tsst corp cd/dvdw/sh-162a ts02(usb)
current profile: n/a

Now what do I need to do. Let me say I really appreciate everyones help espicially binkie. Thank You!

Go to Tool/Drive/Check Firmware update.
whoops never mind, ur current firmware is ts02, and it looks like u have the newest firmware.

edit- so u dont need to update ur firmware, all u have to do is burn with those verbs and see what happens, post back if u have any problems

No problemo emsdad :)
Nothing left like 300bowler said.
Let's burn a Verb and let us know how it goes - good, bad or otherwise!
Try 4x 1st (I'm thinking you got 16x Verb's) - if okay than try 8x and see how that does w/ your setup and dvd players.

Your TSST drive from what I can tell doesn't support booktyping - so if you're dvd players are somewhat newer they should support both -/+ format.

Imgburn is a great burning program - good to keep around - one of the least problematic ones.

Thanks 300. I should use the image burn instead of my dvdcloner3? It also says that I need to disable AnyDVD when useing imgburn, is this also correct? Thanks again for all your help!!

yes to both questions, ImgBurn is a burning program, not sure about the dvdcloner3 program, if if thats what ImgBurn says to do is turn it off then i would do that because u can always turn it back on when trying to copy a dvd.
not really sure as i dont use AnyDVD.
