I've found several instances recently where Shrink won't open a VTS folder (it's usually the VTS 01_1.VOB file, but today it was both an 01_1.VOB AND an 04_1.VOB file). In every instance running FixVTS has cleaned up the file and allowed Shrink to run normally.

It's much simpler (so far) than having to use the more labor intensive VobBlanker program.

If you don't already have FixVTS (free), it's well worth having.

Yes it is. And RipIt4Me seemlessly combines DVD Decrypter, FixVTS, and DVD Shrink. As an alternative, DVDFab Decrypter, VobBlanker and DVD Shrink are an excellent combonation too. Another combonation is rip.NET and DVD Shrink. What rip.NET does is it takes out all the BS for you so you can use DVD Shrink without using FixVTS or VobBlanker.

You're comparing apple to orange here. I have both programs and yes I love them dearly. Yes, it is true that FixVTS is more easy to use, but there's no way you can go wrong with the "auto process mode" via VobBlanker, simple as that.

In addition, if you're an advance user, you can "edit, strip/cut and blank out" any scenes (FBI Warnings, previews, director's commentary, extras, etc.) that you don't need it. Furthermore, you can even convert NTSC to PAL or PAL to NTSC with VobBlanker, plus there are more that you can do with VobBlanker.

I believe that VobBlanker is a little stronger than FixVTS in my humble opinion. Overall, I'd said get both, because they're free and extremely useful.

i love the VobBlanker program, i dont know what i would do without it,(probably buy AnyDVD), i run every movie thru VobBlanker before shrink or recode, have not had any problems with any movie!

When i first tried it out, it sure did look complicated to use, but after i looked at a guide courtesy of alkohol and some other ones, it was a piece of cake, now i take out all the crap on the dvds plus let VOB do its thing of fixing the dvd.

I would use FixVts but like i said before i like to take all the junk out, especially the sony movies which have like 5-10 previews on it.
Just as alkohol says

@300bowler

Ditto. Definitely, it's "easy as sippin' on a Corona". Again, as much as I love FixVTS, I must say that I prefer VobBlanker instead. Not because I first experienced the tool, but simply because there's more that you can do, meaning you have more control over the movie (i.e. what to keep and not - let say "full & widescreen").

Yep, with VobBlanker, we don't need to worry about Sony/Disney (ARccOS) and DreamWorks (RipGuard) whatsoever. It's wise and recommended to always "process" the VIDEO_TS file through VobBlanker even if it's successfully ripped by DVDFAB Decrypter for "security" purpose. In addition, I don't need those junks (FBI Warnings, Rating Logos, previews, extras, etc.) it's just a waste of space only, so VobBlanker is a must have for me, plus it (VobBlanker) can fix/correct those craps (fake structural, fake cells, vts, pgc, etc.) beautifully, blanking is just another flawless step.

Good luck to all and use whatever you deemed that can fix the job and or easier for you.

couldn't agree with u more, just recently i think it was the shaggy dog dvd, i took out the widerscreen version left the full screen and didn't even have to compress the dvd to fit on a SL disk(SWEEEEEEEET):)
definatly reccomend VobBlanker and FixVTS

Something else I've noticed about the benefits of VobBlanker, the time it takes to do its work (say 5 min.) is time saved using a program like Nero to burn with. It maybe coincidence, but blanker already sorts and fixes files all nicely so thats less work the next program has to do. No time lost really, except the 7 extra mouse clicks to open the program, find souce folder, output folder,go.
Even I'm not that lazy (ok maybe I am with discs that need no encode or recode, straight 1-1 copy):P

@ Deadrum33,

yes i agree with u too, it does seem to go faster in shrink or recode if u run them thru VOB 1st, i have noticed that, it has to because VOB lines all the files up so nice
