I replaced my dvd burner today. In the past, after encoding my dvd, the drawer automatically opened, I put in a blank DVD-R, and the burner created my dvd. Now Shrink simply announces that my files have been encoded and are ready to burn with appropriate software. Btw, I have checked "enable burning with nero" in Shrink Preferences. Any help would be much appreciated.

If you are using any Nero 6 version past 6.6.0.18 they do not support autoburning via DVD Shrink.

Thanks very much for the prompt helping hand. I think, though, that my problem must be different from the one your referred me to. I didn't change software when I replaced the dvd burner. That is, using the same version of Nero, my dvd's burned automatically until I replaced the drive today.

Hi RKitsune
You pc recognizes the drive otherwise?

In shrink under 'select backup target' pick the new burner. Sounds like it may be set to 'hard disc folder'.

What version of Nero are you using?

Binkie 7- you were right on the money! "Select Backup Target " was set for "Hard Disc Folder". I tried to remedy this as you suggested. However the pulldown menu for SELECT BACKUP TARGET gives me only two options: "Iso Image File" or "ISO Image File and Burn With DVD Decrypter". No way to select the new burner or "burn with nero". Btw, "Burn With Dvd Decrypter" gets the job done, so this is a fantastic improvement; it's just not quite as convenient as before.)

LOCOENG- after your great piece of research, I uninstalled the version of Nero Suite that came with my new Pioneer dvd burner, and reinstalled the Nero Suite disc that came with my previous (Sony) dvd burner. Shrink had previously worked fine with the Sony burner and the version of Nero that came with it. I don't know which version of Nero it is, but the Sony disc is labeled: Rev. 6.65W.

I thank you both so much for taking an interest in my case!

As far as installing software goes, those versions that came with your drive are probably locked the their respective drive. In other words the software that came with your Sony burner will probably only work with your Sony burner. Users who use Nero like to use Recode. It is made by the same fella that gave us DVD Shrink, but is updated and a little quicker at encoding and will auto burn with Nero's own software when the process is done.

I overlooked that detail that Binkie suggested, glad you got it sorted. Try Imgburn though, it is developed by LUK...the same guy who gave us DVD Decrypter. It is just the burn engine and a little bit more and can be set up to burn with imgburn via DVD Shrink.

Will look into your latest suggestions, LOCOENG. Meanwhile, I followed your earlier instructions, uninstalling Nero, using the clean tool, and installing the earlier version of Nero. Still hoping to return to the situation I had before I replaced the burner.
Thank you.

i do not mean to hijack this thread, but I have not been able to get this to work! I've tried installing and uninstalling everything and even seen the window that asks if I want to replace the old links with burn with IMGburn but no luck.
On the subject,I had some of the same problems recently and found that my problems went away after I did a fresh install of Nero after the new drive was put in. I also have a friend who had an HP burner, that just would not be recognized by recode, no matter what we did.
All programs seen the drive and burned to it, even other Nero programs would copy to it. Recode would not work but he replaced the drive and all is well.

Rename the DVD Decrypter.exe from the DVD Decrypter folder to something like dvddecrypterreal.exe and replace it with the imgburn.exe, renaming it to dvddecrypter.exe

DVD Shrink looks for the .exe to perform this action so when you make the switch and it's burning time Imgburn will be opened for the burning the same as DVD Decrypter was.

Jeez, now I am unable to play commercial dvd's. I get an error message saying that Windows Media Player (RP, as well) cannot play this dvd because of a problem with digital copywrite protection. Is it possible that I lost my decoder (just learned this word) when I dumped Nero in order to downgrade to the earlier version?

LOCOENG and Binkie7, a last question for you two. The situation: I have downgraded to the earlier version of Nero; after encoding with shrink, I am able to manually open Nero and burn to DVD. I have dumped and reinstalled shrink. In EDIT/PREFERENCES, I have checked "Enable Burning With Nero". However, when I open SELECT BACKUP TARGET, I am not offered the option to use Nero to burn with my dvd burner; my only options are: create ISO image file, create ISO image file and burn with DVD Decrypter, or create DVD files-hard disc folder. Does the fact that I am unable to select my burner under SELECT BACKUP TARGET tell you something? It seems crucial to me... Again, I'm profoundly grateful for your help

@aw56001
When you installed the drive did you make sure the jumper pins correspond to the connection on the ide cable - like master to master?

Are you using the Nero version locoeng linked too?

Decrypter & Nero knows you have a burner just need to figure out why Shrink can't see it.

Dear Binkie7,

I did install the version of Nero locoeng linked me to. I wondered about the jumper pins too; my new Pioneer burner had five pins to choose from, versus three pins on the Sony burner it replaced. Wondering if I had erred on the jumper placement, I called Pioneer, and the guy I spoke with assured me that the fact that I am able to burn CD's and DVD's indicates to him that the placement is correct.

RKitsune,
I know this might sound stupid but did you check the box to "Enable burning w/ Nero"
Edit> File I/O and put a check mark there and see if you now can use Nero

It doesn't sound stupid at all, Car.Mike, but, yes, I did check the "enable burning with nero" box. Thanks for the thought, tho.

Sorry I'm at a loss on why Shrink won't recognize the drive. The last thing I can think of is Nero burning rom is not installed w/ Nero. Highly unlikely since you had the autoburn function b/4 (meaning the oem Nero had this).
Decrypter or ImgBurn are a great burners though.
If you do find a solution pls let us know.

Me thinks me knows the answer....

This is the Nero that came with your Sony drive correctamundo?

Could be that your version of Nero is tied to your drive, in other words, when you bought that drive from Sony it came with software that only works on the Sony drive...therefore Nero doesn't know how to see the Pioneer drive.

If this is the case, you have two options...

1. Buy a non-proprietary version of Nero....not suggested.
2. Stick with Imgburn for your burning pleasures.

RKitsune,
When you go into Device Manager are there any yellow flags. Make sure that the burner is recog.by its name.

The only other thing I can think of trying is to D/L a free Registry Cleaner. Reason for this is if Nero Cleantools accidentially left something then this could be what is holding up the Nero Burning and a Registry Cleaner should find it and clean it out. After cleaning then re-boot and try Shrink.

Blinkie7, I am able to use Nero to burn Shrink created files to disc (in particular, I am able to use Nero to burn); it just doesn't happen automatically, i.e., I must open Nero, select files, etc. Doesn't this eliminate the possibility you suggest? Car.Mike, my computer does recognize my burner by name and doesn't seem to cast any aspersions. LOCOENG, I followed instructions at the link you sent me earlier, uninstalling and using cleanup tool to eliminate the version of Nero that had been in my computer prior to replacing the burner. The version of Nero I presently have is an early one I downloaded from a site recommended by the link you gave me, so it's most likely not tied to my old Sony burner. Curioser and curioser...

@RKitsune
Was a highly unlikely suggestion - as long as you have burning rom w/ Nero Shrink should autoburn. That's the app in Nero it uses.

I'm curious too on why this new drive won't autoburn w/ Shrink. At least there's decrypter or imgburn that will do that w/ Shrink.

Yes, Binkie7, it's strange. I've actually removed Shrink a couple times, hoping that after reinstalling, Nero & my burner would magically appear as an option under SELECT BACKUP TARGET. That this option does not appear begins to seem obnoxious! I have installed imgburn and will eventually follow the procedure I ran across somewhere to set up shrink to burn with it. I hope I'll be able to have the same one-step convenience I used to have with Nero. Thanks so much for taking such an active interest in my problem; the backup you, LOCOENG and Car.Mike gave me turned a frustrating situation into a sort of game. I'll definitely let you know if it ever I ever figure it out.

No problem RKitsune
Wish I had a defintive answer for you to fix it.
Maybe Locoeng or Car.Mike have some other suggestions.

Shrink w/ ImgBurn will be good - basically the same 1 click bit but Shrink is just using ImgBurn instead.

Binkie7,
I think we have covered everything. He is using Nero version 6.6.0.18 or below. He has enable burning w/ Nero checked. He has no problems in Device Manager. I presume he used Nero Cleantools and then re-booted before re-loading Nero. I also presume there is nothing left in the Registry from the old Nero Version as a free Registry Cleaner should have found it. He should have DirectX installed as it worked before as was not removed. There is definitely a problem here but I can not figure it out as I think all of the bases are covered correctly

Go figure, Nero isn't for everyone. I use Nero and Imgburn and as far as quality goes, the difference in the two quality wise is neglegable. Plus you gotta love the little guy who churns out a great program like Imgburn for free.
