Try ripping the file with the free DVDFab Decrypter to your HDD and then use Shrink.

Shrink cannot handle the latest releases because of new encryptions placed on DVD's

This is what to do if you are having trouble backing up your movies:

Here is the free way of making perfect backups:

1) DVDFab Decrypter - this wil break the movies encryption while ripping the movie to your HDD

http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm

2) VobBlanker - Not always needed, but it will get rid of any protection that DVDFD left behind. VobBlanker also allows you to blank,replace,cut and strip titles.

http://www.jsoto.posunplugged.com/vobblanker.htm

3) DVDShrink - this will allow you to compress the movie to fit onto a blank DVD-5 disc. Select your output as an ISO image

http://filehippo.com/download_dvdshrink/

4) Imgburn - the best free burner around

http://www.imgburn.com/

Here are some guides:

The other free option:

RipIt4Me. I do not know anything about ripit4me so I will leave you with the excellent guide by arniebear. You can also download RipIt4Me from the same link.

The other way $$$$$

AnyDVD works in the background to automatically remove the copy protection of a DVD movie. All you have to do is start up AnyDVD and continue using your normal compression engine, whether it's shrink, recode or CloneDVD, It's that easy.

Before you pay for this excellent program you have a 21 day trial

What else to do to insure good quality back ups:

1) Update your dvdwriters firmware

2) Invest in good quality media Taiyo Yuden and Verbatims are best. Also look out for Maxell,Sony,Fuji, MIJ's (made in Japan) these are also extremely good blank media.

3) Burn @4x is a good place to start

HDD = Hard Disk Drive, did you get the CRC error on your rip with DVDFab. Try running the file through VobBlanker and then use Shrink.

I don't understand, because I used DVD Shrink with The Benchwarmers, an 2006 film and it worked fine.

@mikedk90
The benchwarmers must have a different type of copyright software that Shrink can bypass.. I am burning FightClub as we speech and I got a cyclic error with Shrink..

@burkey83
When I get a cyclic error I run RipIt4Me which works great with DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink, followed by FixVTS which cleans it all up.. the only problem is, is that it will take longer to get that movie burnt from start to finish... when I use RipIt4Me, I usually only back up the main movie itself.. I would say give it a try.. its free
