This film will not burn, the main film file does not show up on the ripping menu, and all other programs i've tried stop at VOB 2. Help! Any luck with any other programs that are free and downloadable? I think it's Sony's ARCOS protection or something.

AnyDVD ripped it, shrink wouldn't open it but CloneDVD worked perfect.
I like using shrink for everything, so I just had CloneDVD transcode it with no compression and then just sent it to shrink.
Try AnyDVD

Do you mean even after ripping it DVD Shrink would still not recognize the main film file?

I think he was talking about letting AnyDVD run behind DVD Shrink whilst it rips...use the AnyDVD ripper and then open the VIDEO_TS folder in DVD Shrink and backup in Reauthor.

See, I tried AnyDVD once but could not figure out how to rip with it--it seemed to do nothing, direct me nowhere, etc. Any basic help on using AnyDVD? you're saying, i think, RIP with AnyDVD, use the ripper, then rip again with DVD Shrink? explain, please, your message was quite confusing. any good AnyDVD guides around? thanks!

Right click on the fox icon in the system tray and click on Rip to HDD or something similar. Once the ripper has finished ripping to HDD you will have a VIDEO_TS folder...open this folder in DVD Shrink by clicking on Open files and continue as usual. AnyDVD really doens't require a guide as it usually just runs silently in the background and you don't even know it's there.

Hey LOCO and all, dont forget to check the box that asks to remove the bad files (much like VobBlanker does).
there are many cases which using DVD Shrink or Nero to rip a movie causes a hangup even with AnyDVD. You have to get the file on your system to use VobBlanker, so skip a step, and use the ripper.
I personally still use ANyDVD+DVDDecrypter+VOBBlanker on the 10% of movies that have a weird file that old reliable ANyDVD+Recode wont do.

sorry if i didn't make sense.
Most of the time I use DVD Decrypter (with AnyDVD running in the background) to rip the DVD, then use DVD Shrink to compress it down to size.
This movie ripped fine using DVD Decrypter, but it wouldn't open in Shrink. So i used CloneDVD to open it and save it so that Shrink could use the files. You can have CloneDVD compress it to size but like using Shrink.
So its one extra step for me but it all worked in the end.
PS: you only have to rip it once.

It's OK, I realised I ramble a little when explaining things...
Quote: PS: you only have to rip it once.
I know, I was talking about the act of "burning on the fly" not going to the hard drive first
(Technically, since both Shrink and Nero write to a temporary file before burning its not really bypassing the hard drive is it?)
and using either Nero recode or Shrink to do all the work.
If doing an extra step is fine with you, thats all that matters.
Knowing a few different ways to get to the same destination in this hobby is a must.

Do you have DVD Decrypter set up to rip with AnyDVD...AnyDVD doesnt' really do any good unless DVDD is configured to rip with AnyDVD's driver.

thanks Mainomega--
so lemme get this straight--I RIP using CloneDVD (as i would dvdfab decrypter, if it worked), then i run the files through DVD Shrink, burn with Nero. so basically you're saying that AnyDVD is taking the place of the ripper i usually use that doesn't work now? has anybody ripped Friends with Money with clone dvd? and it is basically similar to dvd shrnk, or fabdecrypter--i mean, load it on, and then pretty basically easy to run the film through and rip?
thanks guys, gals.

AnyDVD can rip movies, BUT if you choose to use something else to rip, even with AnyDVD running in the backround, there maybe a chance you will need to run the file through another program (VobBlanker) before ready to shrink and burn. There is a button remove unreferenced and balanked cells that usually takes care of needing blanker after ripped.
Sometimes, though not usually, it takes a week or 2 to update AnyDVD for new movie releases that are problems. Thats why we love having more than one way to do things.

here's my report on friends with money:
used latest version of ripit4me in "one click mode". i was watching part of the time as dvddecrypter and fixvts were processing the files, and i was actually laughing out loud! what a lot of crap those sony guys put on this one! 28 vts's?! i was just imagining them sitting around thinking up stuff while the anydvd/fabdecrypter/ripit4me guys are sitting around figuring out how to defeat what the sony guys just thought up! i don't know, it was just really funny to me.
bottom line: i burned the widescreen "movie only" in shrink re-author and am now going to burn the full disk as well. popped it into my stand alone (ironically a sony by the way) and it played perfectly! what fun!

To use DVD Decrypter in conjunction with AnyDVD as stated per Olli ->OF SLYSOFT AND CloneDVD
Proceed to the DVD Decrypter Opening Page - Tools - Settings
I/O Tab - Click on "Elby CDIO-Elaborate Bytes"
General Tab - un-check "Check For Structure Protection"

CloneDVD and Shrink should handle it w/ AnyDVD.
What does that mean?!!! lol
no one has told me WHAT AnyDVD does or how to use it. help!

Does the little red fox show up on the taskbar?
It runs in the backround to remove copy protections and such from DVD Files. If the little red fox is on, its working.
Does it give you a window saying you've insert a movie into your machine?

@mixwell
Sorry didn't realize you were having a problem w/ AnyDVD. Deadrum33 gotcha covered there.
When you see the red fox right click on it and click on settings>
program settings then check 'show information window for new media'.
Once you put in a disc & AnyDVD has read it (usually pretty fast) the info window will pop and display all the disc info - see my post above.
I like having this set just to see what I'm dealing w/ :)
Keep us posted on your outcome.
@aabbccdd
So much for that rumor months back that Sony was canning ARccOS!
