Hi I hope you can help I have been looking for answers all day. I usually use nerovision to burn mpeg files to dvd but today when I tried before it even began to burn, it said that it could not create disc structure. So then I tried using DVD Shrink I got the trf error and then read that if you uninstall Nero and reinstall an earlier version DVD Shrink should work I tried that but now all I get is burn failed.

Hi Sara82
Looks like you have a bad isntall of Nero - Message file not found

Unisntall Nero (write down serial # 1st) - run the clean then install this version of 6 - 6.6.0.18 - the last one of 6 to autoburn w/ Shrink.
http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/enu/General_CleanTool.html
Package 1
http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Ner....0.18_no_yt.exe

Package 2 (recode & vision)
http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/NVE-3.1.0.21_no_yt.exe

For the 'could not create disc structure' in Vision could be due to the brand of media you are using. Which ones are you using?

File 'Drivers\CDRALW2K.SYS'
Nero and Roxio don't always play well so uninstall Roxio and run the zap tool.
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Uninstallers/Roxio-Zap.shtml

Give that a go.
Keep us posted

Datawrite uses some good manufacturers like MCC. But also uses Prodisc which may be the problem. They're ok.
Imation on the other hand - doesn't use very good manufacturers.

So let's see how the above goes. Fails -just post the new log and we'll go from there.

And you're welcome :)

Ok to uninstall Roxio - just go to add/remove programs and look for Easy CD creator - that may be the Roxio program you have installed. Uninstall from here then download and run the zap tool to remove any traces.

Is this a Medion pc or did you buy this the Pioneer?
May need a firmware update for the drive.
Quote:
Disc Manufacturer ID: OPTODISC,

Those Imations are made by Optodisc - not the best and may be the cause of your power calibration error.
Have any more of the Datawrites?

Burn process failed at 8x

For these let's try 4x and see how that goes.

The brands you are using use different manufacturers so you might get a different one in each spindle - some manufacturers are worse than others. Optodisc is not a good one.
To rule that out use the ones 300bowler lists - these are good quality.

I tried some discs with an id of AML-002-00 and guess what its working. I looked on one of those dvd class guides and it said that, they were pathetic garbage and the optodisc 8 were better. Thanks for all your help, I'm still not completely happy with how its working but at least I know the burner isn't bad.

Hi I was just wondering if anyone could tell me whether the speed of the disc makes any difference I have been using 8x discs though I dont know why, I think thats just what we had around. Also if anyone knows of any other discs with an id of AML-002-00 I would be grateful, because I looked but cant really find any.
Thanks

P.s what would you say about MCC 003 Discs? They are a brand called tuffdisc and are pretty cheap, but cheapness doesn't seem to make a difference with my computer!

hello Sara,

If u try Verbatims, or Taiyo Yudens, you will be completely happy.
Also if u catch the Verbatims on sale u can get them as cheap as other cheap media, they also seem to go on sale at least once a month if not twice, especially at stores like Best Buy, and officeMax.

P.s what would you say about MCC 003 Discs?

MCC 003, is top notch disks and they make Verbatims.

Are those tuffdiscs max 16x speed, MCC 003 is the new verbatims 16x speed disks

Also a good rule to burning speeds is to burn at half the max speed that is on the disk EX. 16x Max u would burn at 8x speed

Hi thanks for replying again. The discs are called tuffdisc overprint(8x)ADVDInfo: MCC 003 and they are £6.70 for 50 discs. Maybe the reason they are cheap is because they are quite ugly. They do say that they are compatible with a pioneer 108. When you were talking about the speeds of the discs does that mean that if I have an 8x disc I should change the setting in Nero to 4x, because usually I just use the maximum setting, and will 16x discs work for me or do you have to have a special writer for that speed of disc to work?

I realised today as well that I have been using optodisc for over about 2 years because an old disc that I used to use called goalover was also optodisc and I never had any problems with them either.

Just one more thing do you think updating the drivers or firmware of the pioneer will help, not that I know how to do that but if it helps I might look into it.
Thanks again

I have a pioneer DVR-108 which can burn at 16x speed but i would not reccomend burning that high, especially not if using low quality disks, but like i said earlier its best to burn the 16x max speed at 8x, or 8x max speed at 4x.

also i think binkie said that there wasn't an update for ur OEM model.

@Sara82
You can try the 1.20 firmware update. Worse case you'll receive an error 'target drive not found' - no harm.
I don't think Advent and Medion are the same company (could be wrong) and Pioneer may support this drive.
http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1898

Download 1.20 from the link - it's an exe file.
Make sure no blanks in drive, close running programs & keep power on.
I think on Pioneers you save the file first then run it. Takes less than a minute. Reboot and the firmware will be updated.

Thank you for finding me the update, its very nice of you.I just tried some proper sony discs in Nero recode and it said it had burnt but when I checked the disc it hadn't and the disc looks like it can be used again, I probably should have saved the log, but I will try again later and save the log. I think I might order some of those tuffdiscs I was talking about earlier because although they are cheap 300bowler said that ID, means they are good, I might order a few other types just to see and one of those things to clean the lens. If I do the update and it works can I do a system restore if something goes wrong, or is the update there forever?
Thanks again for all your help

P.s As I said I have managed to make some discs with Nero recode and the aml002, so I thought I would post the successful log in case that shows something up

Hi Sara82
The firmware update to your drive goes to your drive memory - not the pc's so no system restore on the pc would be needed.
Normally if the target device can't be found you'll get an error message and the drive wouldn't be flashed.
I run a lens cleaner thru by drives every so often - may help a bit.

For the new log - need to edit out the serial - begins w/1A and is under this = ----- Begin NeroAPI error log -----
Only diff I see is a lower burn speed - 2.4x.

For burning - Nero automatically saves a log - look here for the Sony one: program files>ahead>nero>nerohistory.

Does this Sony disc play in anything?

Hi Thanks for replying, the sony disc was completely blank, in fact I managed to record on to it in a standalone dvd recorder. I decided to get a new writer, a man is coming to fit it. We decided to get a 16x writer and the man told me that if we use 8x discs in it, it will take about 15 minutes to copy a full dvd. Does that sound right to you, because I dont want it to be slow because there is something wrong with it, and him tell me its because I'm using 8x discs. Thanks for reminding me about the serial I looked before but couldn't find it.

Doing just a copy to copy would take about 15 mins total but when the burn process starts should take no longer than 8mins at 8 x to a single layer disc (ones's your using).
I burn at 8x a lot - never took 15 mins for the burn process.

Keep us posted on the new burner!

Hi, back again. The man came and installed a new pioneer dvr-11d and although it works with the datawrite discs its very slow. It still takes almost half an hour to do a disc copy in Nero recode and he says it not a memory problem as when he tried it in safe mode, it still took ages to copy. He suggests that I reinstall xp but I dont really want to do that, so has anyone got any ideas, is it back to a firmware update and if so which one? Thanks again

Hi Sara82
Is this drive a DVR-111D? See what the current firmware version is - go to Nero ToolKit>InfoTool. Pick the Pioneer drive and the drive tab. There is a field there for the firmware version.

Using recode to do a backup may take 30 mins total time - depends on the compression being used, write speed.

Here's a few more suggestions (regularly maintenance) if you haven't done this very recently:
°Run a registry cleaner - here's a good free one - ccleaner
http://ccleaner.com
°Do a windows disc cleanup
°Do a system defrag
Keeping up on virus and spyware scans too?
Do a sy
