DVD SHRINK + DVDDECRYPTER + NERO STARTSMART

I am an oldie and still in my wrapper with computers so please be gentle guys. I buy x-rental dvd movies from my local video-ezy store in oz,these dvd`s have a lot of stuff at the beginning I would like to remove. I am running DVD Shrink + dvddecrypter + Nero startsmart which came with my sony burner. Some movies I can re-author just with DVD Shrink others I try to burn with dvddecrypter, this is where I get a problem. I get up to shrink:- double click on folder you created (dvd work)(name of movie appears)double click movie,it moves to the window just under compression settings,then nothing,no titles or anything just a blank space under the title. Can anyone help please.

No problems. While we are on the subject, is your Nero up to date?
Is it Nero 6 or 7? Do you know where to check your version? Open your startsmart and point on the Nero logo or the flame button and click.
There will be a program log with whatever is in your Nero. give us all current version numbers of all programs it says.
Let me and whoever else stumbles along here know what it says about those versions, you might have the digital pack there too so there could be a few lines there depending on what you have so bring it on!

I have found the version you asked about. Under Programs:-Nero OEM
Installed Version:-6.6.0.8:- Serial No.Nero 6 SE Thanks for trying to sort this for me, I appreciate your time and trouble.

kadee1---edit out your serial # you dont want anyone stealing it.
Look right above your post and you will see a pencil and paper icon, click it and edit it. I will be back online in a few hours to help, if anyone hasnt by then. I must go to work...

gurnard is absolutly correct in the fact that AnyDVD is a great investment, I use it myself. As a matter of fact I am using it as we speak with Nero recode instead of shrink, websurfing while the work is being done. It is a one time payment with lifetime upgrades and makes life so much easier. Only about 5% of the movies does Shrink need any help at all (use VobBlanker) and thats easy for the the small amount of times it becomes a 2 step process instead of a one step. I didnt mention it before because all the programs KADEE1 listed were free so I tried staying that route. I did the free route for over a year and the AnyDVD route for the last year and I'll admit it was the best $30 I ever spent for my computer. Cuts the steps and time in half.
Kadee1---That Nero you listed is several versions behind. If you want the best functionability from Nero first write down that serial# you accidentally posted B4 because you will need it. Download these 2 links (but dont run the programs yet, just load them and save them where you will remember)
Package 1 (Burning Rom) the bread and butter

After you have these 2, Completely uninstall Nero from your system using your ADD/REMOVE programs icon in Windows control panel.
Run this clean tool to completely remove your current version of Nero,

Now reboot and then install those 2 packs you downloaded and run them in 1,2 order, type in your serial# when it asks and you will be all set.

Hi Deadrum33, Back Again, I have looked at the Nero site. The package that you suggest, is it the 'Template Package' Nero 6-Pack 1
and the Nero 6-Pack 11 that I should download ? What is Nerovision as both of these packages mention it ? And can I download these packages to disk and re-install using the disks ? Sorry to be such a pain, I am very new to computers.

the first link I posted for Nero Package 1 was broken and sent you in the wrong place SORRY. I found a new link, and edited post. I rechecked the links and as of Sunday 08-10-06 at 11:30PM these lead straight to the downloads you need. Here it is with the edit.

I have downloaded both the packs:- Pack 1 Nero Burning Rom 6.6.1.4
and Pack 2 NVE-3.1.0.21_no_yt.exe. I hope these are the right ones.

Sorry to say, but you downloaded the wrong Nero version. I originaly said 6.6.0.18 but when the link was edited, so was that. What you have will work, but your version has a few "bugs and glitches" in it while the other still works best even though its older. In the link you got that Nero from, you have to click on the words Download this version not where the arrow points downward to the latest version. You are so close you cant let this stop you! LOL take care and I hope all goes well.

Hi Deadrum33, I now have the trial version of AnyDVD, with DVD Shrink and Dvddecrypter. I am trying to get rid of the stuff at the start of 'Narnia' one of the ex-rentals that I bought which I mentioned before. Everything seems to be fine, I get to encoding in shrink up to 81% infact and then I get the message:- Failed to read File D:\ Data error, Cyclic Redundancy Check. I have used the'Search' in Afterdawn forums and found things like reset Dvddecrypter to defaults, but to no avail. Do you have any ideas please. I hate to ask as I don`t want to wear out my welcome with you. Sorry to be such a pain. kadee1.

Seriously though, AnyDVD is the best and backup all your favorite movies while you have the trial version. I'll bet you dont have any problems with the other movies, just Narnia. That was a bear for many people. Do you have Decrypter set up properly to run with AnyDVD?
To use it with DVD Decrypter
Proceed to the DVD Decrypter Opening Page - Tools - Settings
I/O Tab - Click on "Elby CDIO-Elaborate Bytes"
General Tab - un-check "Check For Structure Protection"
To do Narnia though try to use the AnyDVD ripper and see if it works, it may keep you from starting over from scratch.
Right click the fox on your toolbar that shows AnyDVD is working.
Select rip Video-DVD to hard disc
Select the source and destination folders
And check the box that asks to remove unreferenced or blank cells
The check box is important because that is what is causing the hangup with Shrink. Once in awhile there are films that AnyDVD and Shrink alone cant handle. Please let me know how the method I listed works. If you still have problems, there are alternate methods I can help you with, I just really think we can do this without having to introduce more new programs. Let me know how things go.

Bingo!, Changed the settings in DVD Decrypter

I did not do anything else, did not try AnyDVD ripper, because I do not understand Source and Destination folders as yet ( I will have to get 'Windows Xp for dummies' ). Went straight to DVD Shrink and did the normal re-author, trimmed the stuff from the start that I wanted to, and it worked, Brilliant!!! I have another DVD here from Walt,tried that, Perfect. Look thank you for sticking with me on this, I`m very grateful for your help.

No problems and by the way, source and destination, same as every other program.
The source would be the movie disc in your burner, destination is the folder you want it to go to before you open shrink, just like Decrypter.

So if I want to go from D:\ drive to a folder I created in My Documents, "DVD Work" it would be:-
Source D:\
Destination C:\My Documents\DVD Work ?

Absolutely. Or if you have a movie in your burner, Select burner as source, then wherever you store your movies would be target. You only need AnyDVD alone to use the ripper function. No need to open any other program until ready to shrink/burn. I dont do it that way, simply because I like to watch video previews on the screen while it does its thing but thats just me. There are truely many different ways to accomplish the same mission, you choose which you prefer. Knowing different methods is important because every week there is a new movie out there that are called troublesome because it disrupts the way someone has gone about backing up movies for the last year.

Hey Deadrum33, you seem to be a pro at this and I am new to the whole thing.
I started about a month ago with DVD Shrink & Nero (I also have DVD Region Free & DVD Dycryptor). Everything worked great for the first month and then when I reinstalled Nero 7 (demo expired) everything started going sour. Now, nothing works at all...
I saw your page with the guides and follwed the directions for buring with DVD Dycryptor + SVS Shrink, but it failed in the last step. Herer is the error:
I/O Error
Device (2:0:0) HP VD Writer 840b H186
Scsistatus: 0X02
Interpretation: Check COndition
CDV: 2A: 00 00 34 31 E 0 00 0010 00
Interpretation: Write (10) - Sectors 2474912 -274927
Sense Area: 70000 05 00 00...
Interpretation: Invalid Address For Write.
I am really beginning to get frustrated. Everyone (my friends) keep telling me somthing different. Some say DVD Shrink is the problem and I should use another program. Others say its Nero. I don't know what to do? Any thoughts?

Honestly it sounds as if your Nero reinstall went wrong Bcause it says invalid write address and you say it fails on the last step so I'm guessing its the burn program, Decrypter and Shrink do all the work except for writing.
If you have any more questions, please start a new thread in the Nero forum instead of getting in the middle of one. I and many other at Afterdawn will be glad to help and its considered proper manners. I hope things work out for you.
