Somebody please help me. I use the DVD Shrink Program a lot and usually do not have any problems with it. But today, I tried to burn and copy a dvd and the program kept telling me that there was not enough space on the blank disc. I thot that DVD Shrink is suppose to help shrink the movies so they can fit onto the disc. Why isn't it helping with this certain movie?

Are you saying that Shrink is giving you the not enough space error, as Shrink does not burn to a disk, another program has to do that such as Nero, Decrypter, Imgburn or CopyToDVD. Shrink will only put the image onto your HDD and then one of the other programs burns it. Just what program is giving you the error.

Because shrink is no longer updated/supported to deal with newer encryption techniques, shrink can display various error messages while trying to produce a backup, so depending on the copy protection placed on the disk, shrink can produce error messages/codes like this one.

Nero can also display such a message after trying to burn files ripped and transcoded by shrink if and encryption/copy protection issue still exists..so...

Here are some options to try:

1) DVDfab decrypter, it's a very good and supported free whole movie ripper/decrypter. Use it to rip the video files to your HDD, open the files ripped using shrink and proceed as you normally would.

DVDFab
http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm

NOTE: If shrink at any time produces and error while trying to open the files created by DVDFab, you should try processing them thru VobBlanker first before processing with shrink.

vobblanker can be had here
http://jsoto.posunplugged.com/vobblanker.htm

2) Ripit4me, it takes the ripping/transcoding/and burning process and makes it a one click task. You'll need DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter, and FixVTS to make it all work.

Ripit4me (also provided is a guide on use)
http://www.ripit4me.org/

3) Download and install the trial version of AnyDVD. Once installed, run DVD dhrink as you normally would to produce a backup, AnyDVD runs in the backround to crack the copy protection on the disk.

As always, make sure your optical drive has the latest firmware installed and use media considered to be good in quality.

I make sure that my AnyDVD program is running and then I start up DVD Shrink. I do have Nero SmartStart also but do not open it at all when I am copying dvds. The DvdShrink program is giving me the error message.

Just what movie are you trying to backup, and how much space is on your HDD.

If you're running AnyDVD in the backround while using shrink, you should have no problem backing up a movie like Madagascar that's been out for a long time now.

Make sure you're using the lastest version of AnyDVD, you can get it here; http://www.slysoft.com/en/download.html

Also, as what arniebear is trying to find out, make sure you indeed have enough hard drive space to store the video files (5GB at the very least).

-Double-click My Computer.
-Right-click on the drive which you are storing the files(usually, this is C: drive) and select Properties.
-On the General tab, note the amount of free space.

Here's a link that will help you and free space if necessary;

I never (at least I don't think so) have the files go directly to my hard drive. I have them put into "new folder" first, then when I put a blank disc in, the movie automatically starts copying onto it.
I did get the updated version of AnyDVD so I will try to do the movie again. Thanks.

I just wanted to let you know that this is incorrect, shrink doesn't work that way. When shrink rips the files from the DVD, it stores them at a location of your choosing on your Hard Drive (ie. that new folder you mentioned), from there the files are read and burned to disk by Nero (or what ever app you use). That's why it's important to have enough hard drive space or the process will not work. You should manually delete these large files after they have been burned to disk or your hard drive will quickly fill up and you'll run out of space.

I definitely have enough space to do the movie. So what I did was uninstall the DvdShrink program and then installed it again. Now, I will try to do the movie again and will let you know what happens. Yes, I did remember that my "new folder" was on my hard drive. thanks.

I still keep getting the error screen that says "the current dvd size is too big" and i risk not burning some of the resulting files. and then it asks me if i want to continue. i clicked on "yes" and when i got to the part where i put a blank dvd disc in the drive, it says "there is not enough space on this disc". this is the first and only movie i have encountered this problem. what can i do now? thanks for any help.

Rip the file to your HDD with DVDFab and then run it through VobBlanker. John123 gave you all the links and then process with Shrink. Or rip it first to your HDD with the AnyDVD ripper and process that file with Shrink. You are getting protection error problems

How do I "rip" with AnyDVD? have not done that before. i think that would be easier than using the other programs.

Right click on the redfox in the tray and choose the Rip Video-DVD to HDD choose your source and then your output folder, also check the box to remove any blank or unreferenced cells. Once it is ripped process this file through Shrink and then burn.

kittkat,

if you are wanting to use a simple way to do it, i would suggest the combonation of DVD Decrypter + DVD Shrink.

now just those two programs alone will not work with madagascar, nor with any of the new movies. so you will want to download fixVTS, and Ripit4Me.

scroll up and you'll see the links for ripit4me, and fixVTS. bascially you click on ripit4me to start, and use the 1 click wizard button and it does everything for you.

kattkitty,
You said a small bit of red in the top right hand corner, that indicates that the "shrunk file" will not fit on a std DVD. You need to change the copmpression ratio on either the "Menus" "Extras" or the "Movie". Go to Custon Ratio and slide the slider to the left until you don't see any red bar, top right hand corner.

also to add to what Molder said, if you dont care about other languages take those out of the menu/extras/etc folders off to the right. that will help fit all the material you will actually watch on the DVD. good luck

Thanks for all your help. Let's see if I got this right. I will change the compression ratio on either "Menus, Extras or Main movie" and I can also cut out all languages except for English. Also, slide the slider to the left until no red is showing on the bar. Is that right? I will try that and let you all know if it worked alright.
Thanks again,
kathy

I tried changing the compression ratio but it still did not work. When I had all green on the top bar, I had hoped it would work. But when I copied and burned it, it did not work. It said "this video has been removed". So I must have done something wrong. There are two bars showing on the DVD Shrink screen before I do it. The very top one that is green and sometimes red at the very end of it, and the small bar right below the "ratio" tab. but when I move that one, nothing changes on the top bar. don't know what I am doing wrong.

Either rerip the DVD with the AnyDVD ripper or DVDFab Decrypter and then use VobBlanker. Or run the file through Shrink twice that should get it down to size.

I did try doing the movie several times but it did not work. I did notice that that certain movie had a lot more files than most of the others did. About 120 files and folders. Thanks for all your help.
