I was dubbing a DVD with Shrink to burn to my Sony DVD+/-R/RW drive. When the shrinking finished and it auto-jumped into burning, Shrink spit out my DVD+R with a message that it is the wrong format of media. It gave a message along the lines of "Shrink is looking for Media: DVD-R/RW. Media in Drive: DVD+R". Normally Shrink autodetects the media (or maybe my drive does the autodetect and tells Shrink), but this time it just insisted it had to only have -R. I almost always use +R as my previous burner (long dead) had only supported +R, so I got used to sticking with it. Fortunately, I had a blank -R on hand, but I would prefer to keep as much of my library to a single format, and I've got a lot more blank +Rs than -Rs at home. Anybody know what may have happened and how to correct it?

Your drive does the auto-detecting and informs Shrink.

Well, either the disk was bad (or you got a bad lot), or your drive is having a problem with correctly recognizing the media you're using. Start by making sure the burner's firmware is upto date, you can check here and download an update if needed.

You could also try switching to a better brand of media like sony or verbatims.

Note: if you have DVD Decrypter, you can use it to also check for you. Here's how:

I was using Verbatim. If the burner handles both + and -, why would it only look for one and identifying the other reject it? I actually tried the same DVDR again on my next run of Shrink and it burned without any problem. Maybe a technical hiccup?
