yeah your right there, i think it is making things confusing for people. what i cant understand is why people are still using devhook for ta-082's when there is a downgrader and upgrader out there for these people which plays everything homebrew, ps1 emu and backup iso's why would they not want these options whilst running no software on their mem stick ???????????????

i think ppl are still scared at the fact they can brick there psp, but as for devhook i tried it before i did the downgrade/upgrade and i got to tell ya it was most frustrating trying to get to run without either freezing or just resetting the psp back to default which ment i had to reload devhook all over again.....
i downgraded/upgraded mine with no problems at all, but when my mate tried it he bricked it then he returned it for replacement and got another 1 then i tried it and i bricked it also(both these were black psp's).
anyways he returned it again and was lucky enough to get a replacement(wow 2 psp's in 1 day, they were sus but they did it)...
anyways on the 3rd we went back to 1.5(which we had no problems with on any of them)..
the only thing we did different was use my memory card, anyways about 2 hours later he decided to go up to 3.03oe and bingo it worked....
later we found out that his 2 day old sony memorycard was faulty which was the reason we bricked 2 psp's......
so ppl if possible use a memory card that is known to work....

This thread is dead now that there's a TA-082 downgrader. I'm not going to use the downgrader because there's a chance I might brick my PSP in the process.
My PSP Firmware History: 2.60 had to return the PSP because it had a dead pixel > new PSP had firmware 2.71 > 1.5 > 3.52 M33 > 3.52 M33-4 > 3.71 M33 > 3.71 M33 with 1.50 kernel

How did your friend get a replacement for a bricked PSP? And how did your friend manage to get 2.71 firmware twice? The PSP's at the stores are probably updated. What store was it?

i am in australia and the store it was purchased from was WOW sight and sound...the first psp that bricked was only 2 weeks old so i guess the store still had a few of the ta-082's left and they were on special as well..
he just told them that it was dead ie:power but no screen...
cheers

i am a uk user, what i did was go to game and trade mine in for a 2.71 second hand one. this way u know what u r getting before u buy. well worth spending 20 quid for an exchange ;-)
i now have a white ta-082 2.71 downgraded and back up, and a black 2.71 down and up also.

My bro just got a non-TA082 fw2.6, has anyone tried the Easy Installer K or even the manual method with a non-TA082?

Actually, the downgrader is safe. As long as you follow the directions carefully regarding the downgrader, and then updating sequentially to 3.03 OE-A meaning downgrade to 1.5, upgrade to 3.02 OE-A then to 3.02 OE-B, then to 3.03 OE-A and finally to 3.03 OE-A'.
Your PSP won't brick if you follow directions carefully, Read them very carefully before you do anything. However remember one key thing... Reformat your mem stick.

downgrade to 1.5 using the full installer from here from 2.71
http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=34445[/quote]
Actually, what Quangsta is asking and what I'd like to find is if a non-ta082 can use the method in this guide to run henD and emulate w/devhook. Since I'm trying to get my bro's PSP running, downgrading is NOT an option coz he said he'd slice me if I tried. Has ANYONE tried this method successfully with a non-ta082? Anyone???

If you don't want to downgarde juste follow the guide on the 1er page.
I do it before downgarding my psp with fw 2.71 and ta-082.

You don't have to dual boot your psp !
Just downgrade to 1.5 and upgrade to 3.02-oea with this firmware you can play homebrew iso, cso, PSone games and more ! I follow that guide:
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/441993
Reade carefully and format your smart card
