Can someone please help me. I am trying to create a back-up copy of my King Kong DVD, but I am getting knowhere fast. I have read on here how 'easy' people have found this process but I'm new to all this and I'm struggling.

I have got DVD Decrypter, but when I get to 16% of the process I get read-errors. I have cleaned, cleaned and cleaned the disk to no avail. I tried DVDFab Decrypter and this failed too.

I have a copy of AnyDVD running in the background. I thought if I did that I could automatically go to DVDShrink. However, yet again at a certain point the process hangs-up and I get a 'Cyclic Data Error'. Really don't know what else to try so would like some pointers from someone. THanks.

If you are getting read errors and CRC errors and cleaning does not help, return the disk for another. You got a bad disk.

Have you tried ripping the disc to your hard drive using the ripper that comes with AnyDVD then using shrink.

Or if you're desperate, try IsoBuster. It will read the data on the dvd, errors and all. But exchange it for a good copy first.

1. dvddecrypter is no longer updated, so it will often not work with dvds using encryption methods created in the last two years. supposedly it will work if you have current AnyDVD running in background. not sure why that didn't work for you, especially if you tried ripping it to the hard drive. but you can do that with AnyDVD alone, you don't need dvddecrypter. (right click on the AnyDVD fox icon in the toolbar, select "rip dvd to hard drive"...). since you have purchased (free trial?) AnyDVD, you might want to purchase (free trial) the companion clonedvd2, which makes things really really easy, and fast. basically one step... "clone dvd". 2. dvdfabdecrypter will NOT work if you have AnyDVD running in the background. turn off/disable/exit AnyDVD. run dvdfabdecrypter. run that output file through VobBlanker. run that file through shrink. 3. another option is ripit4me (see link below). it will do everything needed with "one click". and it will warn you when it starts up to disable AnyDVD, which creates a conflict. 4. king kong is a very large file. it will require a lot of compression. you might think of breaking it into two dvd5s or burn a dual layer to get better picture quality. let us know what works for you.

I, too, had same problem. Try ripIt4me and fixVTS to rip and use DVD Shrink for encoding and burning.(worked for me)

You know, I have been at this for hours and I just cannot get it. I don't even like this movie now, but I feel its a battle of wills between me and this minefield of software at my disposal.

Think I'm about to quit, allbeit I think I'm close. I get an unexpected error when use DVDFab. Also if I run it through VOBlanker it has skipped tracks. When I get to any burn software I continually get fault messages - DVDCloner refuses to make a disk. Wish I could get the hang of this darn stuff! I did follow a guide that was recommende don here so if anyone has any other hints please pass them on to the newbie.

Appreciate your comments and help.

been there. very very frustrating indeed.

this movie shouldn't really be a problem, since it is "older", so you probably don't even need the latest versions of all the freeware (but it would be a good idea to have the latest versions anyway).

did you disable/exit AnyDVD before running dvdfab? if you have left AnyDVD running in the background, it will likely give you errors when running fab... and then that file may be a problem for VobBlanker.

did you try using the AnyDVD rip to hard drive? that should give you a file that you should be able to shrink and then burn with whatever you like (imgburn, dvddecrypter, Nero, etc.).

if for some mysterious reasons the above don't work (they should easily process king kong), you can always start learning a new piece of software (it's really not difficult ("one click mode") once you get it set up), ripit4me works on everything out there too.

let us know what works, and if you can figure out why what didn't work didn't work (i once left AnyDVD running while using dvdfab (i was swearing at those "unexpected errors") even though i "knew" i had turned it off...). i've also had the experience of one disk not working no matter what i tried... and gave up after several hours and repeated attempts. came back the next day, ran the same software and it worked without a single hitch. go figure.

I backed up King Kong with just DVDshrink with nothing running in the background. The program is not your problem. I wouldn't waist my time with other programs it has to be the disc itself. See if you can try another disc.

I know it's not much help when others say that backing up this movie was easy. I had a brand new copy which I backed up before even playing it.

It certainly sounds like a bad pressing. Take other peoples advice and try and get another copy. Also make sure you have no other programs running in the background.

Thank everyone, I love this website and all the help out there.
After hours of trying I did manage to get a back up copy done. The only thing wrong with it is that for some reason there is a 2 minute section of the film that has been cut out. In my limited knowledge I would guess that this is because there was a hidden file still in there that hadnt somehow been stripedout. Slight frustration but happy that I wasnt completely beaten. I'll try one of my other disks today and so no doubt I'll be back on here begging for help.

well, i guess king kong minus two minutes is progress! way to go! of course you should have every single second of the movie in your backup... did you use VobBlanker or fixvts? fixvts is part of the ripit4me package and fixes structural problems as does VobBlanker. i know you are at the beginning of learning a lot of new information, but maybe in a week or two after you have gotten more accustomed to the processes and things are all working smoothly you can go back and make a flawless backup of king kong.

i am curious about what software you used to get what you have gotten. please let us know so we can scratch our heads along with you about those missing two minutes. also keep us informed about how things go with other dvds. once you get familiar with all the available tools (see urls below), you will find the one(s) that you like best the backup process with be simple and fast.

When you ran it through VobBlanker, I think you need to go to The Process All Button. That will Process even the files marked as skipped.

I think we are all curious about this. I personally use DVDFab, VobBlanker and DVDShrink - set to automatically burn with Nero.

Make sure ther are no other programs running, especially with DVDFab. Make sure for instance you haven't got DVD43 hiding in the utility tray. Switch off your internet security and anti-virus and any other programs sitting there - don't forget to switch your internet security back on before you re-connect to the internet -

DVDFab decrypter is now v3.0.1.2 and VobBlanker is now v2.1.1.0
