^ GOOD POINT ^

I have just read through about 12 pages on this topic on xbox-scene.

The views are totally mixed. I did see one or two interesting posts, one that stood out for me was the fact that apparently the xbox 1 firmware was modded by c4c or something? Anyway, when hacked with that that xbox could still play online with backup games.

To me thats good news for the 360 and it may look like a hardware change (black glue) maybe the only solution at the moment. Personally though, if MS wanted to do it, i'm sure they could. I think more people would buy a 360 if they could play copies online. MS wants to be the leader of the consoles, and to be honest, I think it will take it. I've been a PS2 user in the past. I've converted!

The only reasons I posted those things is cause I was trying to think of the numbers off the top of my head. I was only trying to help the guy out.

But anwyays, I agree with you Woz. I think that eventually MS will come out with something that will slow down, but not necessarily stop the firmware mod at least for a little bit of time.

yea the black glue is deffinitly the only answer they have as of right now, provided that they dont seth up live so they can detect a hacked firmware, but even then oh well i guess. i dont play that much live anyways, not enough time in my day to. and how can one not switch from ps2 to a 360. the 360 is a million times better. side not here, sorry to get off topic, but is there a way to make the post appear in backwards order. like the newest post to the oldest? that way i dont have to scroll from the bottom of the page to re-read what was written all the time?
thanks

Yeah but they want to be the leader of the consoles because of the great financial rewards received from software sales, M$ knows this better than any company out there. They lose cash on almost all the consoles they sale because they know they are going to make it up on software. If people aret buying thier software then they are losing tons of $$. So they are going to do everything they can to stop moders from doing thier thing. I think that future 360's will have better security as long as they keep releasing new drives and pay attention to what modders are doing to the previous drives. If they keep fixing it then eventually they will accomplish there goal of making 360's hack proof but not anytime soon. Maybe not even on the 360 maybe on the next console.

I find it hard to believe that they will ever have a hack-proof console.

im with you, there wont ever be a hack proof console. it will be impossible to do that. they only thing that i could think of that would be hack proof would have been like atari, or sega, something that used a cartrige game rather than a cd.

Even the cartridge based systems get hacked. How else do you think all those ROMs for classic systems are floating around out there? It was just WAY more rare to see someone playing dumped NES games during it's hey day, but it was happening. Also Nintendo DS uses cards which are the same principle as cartridges. Are people playing pirated Nintendo DS games today off of flash carts? You bet they are.

Wow, i didnt know any games with cartridges were hackable. I guess I really took the time to think about how the roms got there. I had no idea people had pirated DS games on Flash Cards either.

Business practices 101...

.....Dont alienate your customer base unless absoloutley necessary

This will never happen unless M$ start making a loss on the xbox franchise, perhaps if say 50% worldwide consoles were hacked and all games played on them were pirates.

This is precisely what M$ will do because this is the only sensible business decision..

1)Produce new console revisions that are much harder to implement the FW hacks on, perhaps a case revision to make it harder to open (although this will inevitably push up the costs of repair and thus is PROBABLY not viable)

2)If possible find a method to detect hacked FW and hinder the user just enough that they feel life would be easier without the hack

3)try to update the console in a manner that prevents the FW from bypassing the security checks so that legit titles work as normal but copies dont

Thats pretty much it, also they will probably make a press announcment regaurding lifetime bans from Live! and make up a few hundred names to put to pictures played on the screen at the superbowl, hell thatd cut modded consoles in half even if it was known to be a lie.

They will NOT band many thousands of you, or indeed any of you from Live! as i said the absoloute worst case would be temporary denial of access whilst the FW was detected meaning mandatory reflashing (switchable EPROM chip anyone). M$ cant go around banning its customers, its bad business and overall not good for the company.

Common sense really

Help me im stupied

They do and have been for a long time. If your modded xbox 1 is detected on Live, it and your account are banned. Why wouldn't they do the same with the 360's?

Why do they ban you with a modded Xbox 1 if your playing your own backups, Id have thought it would be the game they would run a check on and not care about the console?

Is it illegal to mod your Xbox?

Surly you can do what you want to your console once you hand over the cash for it?

Personally it would be great if you could play your own backups, unforunately the majority of people don't backup their own games, its more likely to be a rental or a download!

Yeah, it probably is illegal to mod your box. Who knows!

I see, so if you go on Live with a modded console do you have to run your origional game to play then?

So far you can play online with the FW hack. However, i'm not sure about the modchip. Maybe easier to detect? However, with a modchip you can turn it on and off and then play your ORIGINAL game online. The modchip allows you to play the backup.
