When I try to rip R4 using DVD shrink I get this message.

CDvdESS::Read failed!
The maximum number of secrets that may be stored in a sigle system has been exceeded.

The only other region I have successfully ripped is R1.

Try dvddecrypter. I've had a disc or two that DVD Shrink failed to decrypt/rip.

DVD Shrink does not really like multi-region discs differing from that of your writers region. So to back-up a disc with a different region it is best to use DVD Decrypter to rip it and DVD2One to compress it. DVD Decrypter will warn you about the region difficulites before ripping.

The other option is to convert your drives firmware to RPC1 instead of RPC 2 (region encoded)
