@Loco and aabbccdd,

Thanks friends. I think that sometimes I become to contemplative about the quality scans. I was not in a quandry about anything, just thinking. All of my backups play great, and I have not had a coaster a very long time, so all is well. I just wish that I could get better results from the Verb 16x DVD+R MCC-004 media that I have. It just will not burn to the quality that I would expect from Verbatim media. I will probably not buy that media again. I got better results from the OD 16x that I bought a couple of weeks ago.

Oh well. Nothin to fret over anyway. Life is too short, and I have too many backups to do! :)

I feel your pain with the MCC004's, but is a QS of 95% really that bad? Take a look on a couple different forums (DD, here, CDFreaks especially) and you'll see a big trend of decreased quality with the Verbatims. I don't put alot of weight in the QS scores either, I have no problem playing my backups in any of my DVD players, but since getting the BenQ which is supposed to be an excellent scanner I've found myself scanning more and more. I'd like to see just how good it can get, I don't think that a 100% score is even possible, but I've reached 99%..close enough I think. The just of the matter is that when watching the backups, the 95% discs look just as good as the 99% discs, I can't even tell the difference.

Thank you all to repsonding to my thread. However I have 3 questions.
How do I operate Nero recode after decrypting with fab decrypter if I am using Nero 7?

From the response it sounds that recode is faster than shrink. But for what purpose? Shrinking a file that has had its protection removed, for example with dvd fab decrypter using open dvd file?

Or ripping an original copy protected dual layer disc from begining to end with open disc in shrink?

I thank you all in advance for your feedback.

kwamesead ,
To do a movie in 7 use Recode> Remake a DVD.

Since the development of Shrink stopped 3 1/2 years ago( he went to work for Nero) that program has not been updated but it still works well w/ the older movies. W/ the newer programs the decryption system needs help and that is why people use Ripit4Me or DVDFAB Decrypter or AnyDVD w/ it. Recodes algorithm is a little better than Shrinks and that is what makes it faster and you get a slightly better quality DVD product.

Hopefully the above has answered all of your questions but if not just re-post the questions you need answered

As stated by Car.Mike, you can use Recode with AnyDVD running in the background and there is no need to rip to your HDD first. If you don't have/use AnyDVD, rip to HDD first using DVDFab or RipIt4Me and open the VIDEO_TS folder in either Remake DVD or Full Disc mode with Recode. I also prefer Recode to DVD Shrink.

When you mean not having to save image to the hard drive are you talking about copying on the fly? How is this achieved without any errors? If you are using any dvd in the background how will recode or shrink rip and burn the original dual layer disc to a 4gig blank without it being saved as an image file, iso file or video ts folder? I will be copying the original lost part 2 series that takes ages as it has to be decrypted to the hard drive with fab dycrpter, shrunk by shrink and then burned by Nero. This can take up to 60 minutes a disc! Can you pleas give me a step by step breakdown of the quickest way to copy all discs with protections shrink cannot handle? Including how to take out audio streams that take up space and slow down the process? Thanks in advance.

Copying on the fly is not recommended, so you untick this box as it can cause errors on your playback. Copying on the fly is going directly from one disk to the other, i.e. ripping and burning at the same time. What you can do is choose your burner as your target and then Recode will temporarily copy files to your HDD and then after your burn they will be deleted. When you open Recode choose to copy your DVD and then you can untick what audio you do not want, then choose your burner as your target and click okay. Make sure AnyDVD is running in the background before you open Nero.

From the sound of it this process is exactly the same as burning a audio cd with Nero burning rom or express. Am I right?

Also, are you saying that once any dvd is running in the backround I can shrink and burn an entire dual layer movie with shrink or Nero recode without the use of fab decrypter first? If so, will this take less than the 60 minutes it takes using fab dycrypter, shrink and Nero burning rom?

Lastly, how often can I download trail versions of any dvd, and is there a website I can download a free copy with a key generator?

Thanks. kwamesead

Yes with AnyDVD running in the background you should be able to use Shrink/Nero Recode without ripping to HDD first, however sometimes when new protection comes out, or there is particularly stubborn protection, you may need to rip to your HDD first and remove it with another program such as VobBlanker or FixVTS. Some protection is not always removed even with AnyDVD. You can use the built in ripper of AnyDVD to rip to your HDD, if this happens, just check the remove blank or unreferenced cells in the box. You can access the ripper by right clicking on the redfox in the tray and choosing to rip DVD to HDD.

No you must buy the program, once it expires in 21 days that is it. I would edit the last part of your post about this, as piracy is not condoned on AD. You can try but you must buy :)

i avoid lots of headaches by ripping with ripit4me with "run the files thru fixvts" checked or by running the files thru VobBlanker after ripping them.

Nero Recode2 or Shrink using deep analysis and AEC/ fabdecrypter or anydvd running in the background/ IMGBurn to burn/main movie only mode= perfect.
