Since this error/failure started happening with Shrink on most DVD's I now use a 4step process starting with DVDFab, VobBlanker, DVD Shrink and finally DVD Decrypter. I've learned to look at the DVD's source to decide if I want to try Shrink first or go to the 4-step process. At times I have guessed wrong & had to go to the 4 step process to get the job done. The 4-step process has been 100% successful so far. Now for my question, is this the best method or is something else faster or should I leave well enough alone. The 4-step process works fine but is more time consuming.
Hi rgh
Well there's also RipIt4me - all free too. May take the same time or a few minutes longer. Uses shrink, decrypter, FixVTS and you can use the 1 click mode.

If you want to cut out the steps than AnyDVD would be it. Not free - has a 21 day free trial. Stays on top of the lastest copy protections too like the above programs.
You would just run it in the background with Shrink. No need to rip 1st. Just use Shrink like you usually would.
I'll bite too :)
I haven't had any problems so far with it. The only movies I've done w/ it either have ARccOS or Ripguard.
Not saying it's totally bug free - depends on pc specs, set up, programs installed etc. That's why it's good to send the debug log to RipIt4Me for them to fix.
Rgh,
The method you are using is Fine. If you want to spend $39.00 then you can get AnyDVD and rip the DVD to HD also as that uses FixVTS also to correct the structural problems.
I do not Know if anyone has ever timed the different ways to do a DVD but it might be interesting to see what is the fastest, safest method. Binkie7 might know if this has been done but I do not recall a thread about that
Locoeng,
Be gentle, really gentle like ddP when the un-informed answers you
Appreciate all your feedback, I might give Any DVD a try since its free for the trying and see if it does a big difference in the time it takes to get the job done overall.
You know I'll be gentle...leave the buggery to ddp, he's much better at it than me. As for the timing, I backed up RV in 12 minutes from rip to burn using DVDFab in movie only mode and then burned via build mode with Imgburn....12X rip = 6 minutes and 12X burn = 6 minutes...I think this is the fastest I've ever burned a movie if ripping to HDD first. The quickest would probably be to let AnyDVD run behind DVD Shrink/Recode while encoding/ripping simultaneously and then burn. This is leaving burning on the fly out of the equation.
@rgh & mattym123
I'm a long time user of AnyDVD and love it, however lately I've been using the latest DVDFab Decrypter and am quite taken by it's slick new GUI and features. VobBlanker isn't always needed after using DVDFab, you can usually take that step out of your process. Also as stated above, if you rip the movie only via DVDFab Decrypter there is the possibility that sometimes no encoding involved which will reduce your backup times anywhere between 5-20 minutes depending on how much data is being processed and your system specs.
My advice would be to try AnyDVD for 21 days, then give RipIt4Me a shot for a couple of backups and then try out the latest DVDFab. BTW, how long is your process taking you?
