Live! goes down tomorrow for the big update. When it comes back up most people are expecting new features and the autumn dash update.
I for one am unplugging until i see the outcome.
Odds are very little will happen, worst case - modded consoles start getting blocked until restored to original FW/state
We shall see

I don't think they'd wait until a certain date to implement a fix to detect hacked firmware. If they had something they'd put it into effect right away. Each day they hold off they'd be losing money.

nah the extent to which they obviously need to correct the consoles software (since if it was an easy fix it'd already be done) means that it HAS to be included in a major update. An update such as this.
Personally i dont reckon anything will happen but....
And like Mike says, they'll put any fix they do get onto future releases anyway.

An update is an update. Big or small. They can do it anytime they want and without notice if they see fit. Why would they go and say "hey..we found a way to stop this hack, but lets wait to put it into effect", especially with all the money they claim they're losing in Asia, Tailand, Korea, etc. to piracy.

lol nope, i mean dont forget that M$ can get hold of everything you can, they have all the 'stealth' code and FW code and are paid lots of money to break it down + they have the added advantage of unbridled access to the machine itself. It is ALMOST without doubt that they WILL release something to counter the FW flash. Its just a question of what

Really? oh ok...well expect updates like new dashboard feutures and new dashboard looks,also some other updated feutures,and ofcourse that lustfull and upscalled 1080p resolution feuture.well look out for it...the xbox website will be down for the update and so will the whole xbox live system including marketplace and online playablility.Just hope ms never release anything to counter firmware,i'd really not want to be banned from live,at least not before i get to try halo3 online and gta4 online...What i want to know is,i'm on silver membership at the moment,will i be allowed to download the update?

Also as I am aware the xbox 1 had a modded firmware, still to this day I hear no one got booted?

no they will definately find a way, but dont think this is it yet. if you think about it, they are busy right? but that kind of detection stuff would take millions and its kinda privacy intrusion to go into someones xbox like that. thats why they didnt detect the xbox 1's modded firmware, they can detect mods, but thats bungies side, bungie own the right to ban any member of xbl that uses its games unlawfully or incorrctly. microsoft have no such luck, because they would have to see what everyone is doing and also have to view a "log" of whats happened. thats why they can't. so your safe, until they find a different way of doing that.

im guessing they didnt think it all that important, myabe by the time they were going to get round to it they had already thought of the xbox 360. and that the 360 would be invincible ( naive? )

I think Xbox 1 DVD firware hack was released towards the end of January 2006. Obviously Xbox 360 was already out by that time. The thing is did they think to give DVD drive the lines of comunication for it to report what firmware it has on it? If they didn't already do it they when made it they can't just add it later. We'll see what happens tomorrow, but it's fun to speculate.
