I installed the powerhouse trio of Shrink/AnyDVD/Nero3.2 on a new Toshiba laptop. This combination has been with me thru 2 computers in the last 1 1/2 years and worked flawlessly but not on this machine. I "Open Disk" ok but when I tell it to backup it hangs for about 3 seconds and then just exits Shrink with no messages or warnings. I posted this inquiry a while back and have tried the suggestions of removing all other burning programs and reinstalling Nero but it is still the same. I am able to copy using DVDDecryptor and Nero on disks<4.7 gig but I need Shrink. I hope maybe someone has discovered an answer since my last post. Thanks, Mike

mirion ,
Shrink sometimes does that when it finds a DVD structure problem or encryption it can not break or AnyDVD does not decrypt the movie correctly. Use the ripper feature in AnyDVD and rip it to HD amking sure you automatically use FixVTS(correct the structure problems). Now try Shrink.
You can also use Ripit4me or DVDFAB Decrypter>VobBlanker and then Shrink

Hi Car Mike, Thanks for the reply. These are disks that rip just fine on my other computer with these programs but not on the laptop.

mirion-
If you have Nero 6 then you have Recode2. You can use that instead of Shrink. Have you removed shrink and done a reinstall? Shrink only has 3 registry entries that shouldn't interfere with a reinstall of the software.

Yes, I uninstalled Nero, Shrink and Sonic. I then reinstalled Nero and Shrink and the exact same thing occurs. It analyses ok but when I tell it to backup it sits there for a couple seconds and then exits. Is it possible there is some sort of incompatibility with the Matshita drive that causes this? Thanks, Mike

mirion ,
Try running the files that are ripped to the HD through VobBlanker first then use Shrink

I have this exact same error.... but only with one particular backup that I'm trying to do (Stay Alive). Shrink works fine with other backups... Does yours work with a different movie that you are trying backup?

mirion,
I just re-looked at the thread and nowhere did I see that you used Open Files. Try ripping the DVD to HD first and then use Shrink. It is worth a try.
You also might try a free registry cleaner and clean the computer's registry

I agree with Car.Mike. After the file is ripped open that file with Shrink. In case you are not sure the directory path should look like this: c:\Movie_Name\VIDEO_TS Then when you run Shrink you need to open the file on the HD.
Certain movies have lots of previews and unwanted material on them. some movies have both full screen and wide screen editions. You might also try using VobBlanker to remove unwanted material.

you can go to http://www.download.com
get CCleaner, Spybot Search & Destroy, A-Sqaured Free, Ad-Aware SE Personal(Lavasoft). All of these programs are free and do a good job of getting rid of corrupt registry entries and Adware/Maleware.
If you are running Windows XP then get Windows Defender at Microsoft.com download section. This program everyone should have, but the previously mentioned programs are good for basic cleaning for people that do not know how to find and remove entries.
I hope that solves your problem.
