Well get a program called GSpot and check what codecs are required just to be safe, also try a program called avicodec, that also will give u more info on the file. And try playing the file in a better player like WinDVD!

Thanks a lot .... got the codecs now & the AVI plays like a dream.

Ok ... next step ...... what software do I need to get this onto a dvd-r? I am running Windows 98se, got tons of hard drive space & 256mb ram.

What software/programs do i need now? Something that works would be good & something that is idiot-proof so I get it right lol

Thank you

You have a few options, u could encode with TMPGEnc using the project wizard (file - project wizard) or you could follow this guide - http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?s=b9415f45a286b31ceabbb8cbf2410bf5&threadid=61142

i think that guide gives the best results of all i've tried! Good luck!

I just bought a dvd rewriter bundled with Nero 5.5 ..... Does this encode avi's to mpeg-2?

I have tried TMPGEnc but it only seems to give the option for mpeg-1, which isnt good enough for what i want. Plus the fact that it says that the file I am encoding is way too big .. even though it isnt!

I am getting more & more confused with each day ..... any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Nero will with the mpeg-2 plugin which you have to pay for!

However i dont like Nero encoding anything, you would be better off buying TMPGEnc Plus!

Hi again ........... Right ..... Ive delved a bit deeper into all of this & this is what i "think" I need to do with my avi's ........

Software I need is .......... DVD2SVCD, CCE (Cinema Craft Encoder), TMPGEnc DVD Author, Nero (version Ive got is 5.5.10.13) ........

Is this enough or are there any more?

I was told about 2 other ....... AC3 Machine .... and DVDRepair ........ what are these & what do they do & are they really necessary & if so where do i get them?

Of course ... that is all for making my own dvds ........ I guess if I want to back up my dvd's, VirtualDub would do that all for me would it?

Thanks for any advice/help/anything else!

Nope!! If you want to backup your dvd you have the choice of DVD Shrink, DVD2One, DVDXCopy, CloneDVD or DVD Decrypter!
