Hi, I hope someone can help me. I just purchased a new Dimension Dell 9200C with a dvd burner and when I tried backing up a dvd movie like I normally do with shrink and AnyDVD (v. 6.0.8.2), I got the message "copy protection error dvd css authentication failed" on shrink. What's going on?
DVD Shrink works when I disable AnyDVD but not when it's on. Is there some setting on the drive not letting me backup?
Right click on the little fox head in the lower right hand corner and the third command from the bottom should say Rip to HD. Click that, let it do it's thing and then try burning with Shrink.
sometimes, not all the time AnyDVD has problems until it is updated. Go to http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm and download DVDFab Decrypter. Turn AnyDVD off when it is running. Then open Shrink and it should work.
Another thing to do is get DVD Decrypter. In conjunction with AnyDVD once it is set up properly you will have no problems. Another program to use is RipIt4Me. You may download those programs at this site: http://www.ripit4me.org/

thanks a lot guys, ripping to the hard drive works but I'm just wondering, is there something with this dell (nec) burner that prevents it from running shrink and AnyDVD like I used to with my old LG dvd burner?
I never used to have to rip onto the hard drive first. I would just pop in a dvd, launch AnyDVD, launch shrink and off I went.

sometimes that will work, but sometimes you will need to rip it to the HD with AnyDVD or DVDFab Decrypter. Now if you were using CloneDVD2 along with AnyDVD the combination does the job. I don't use CloneDVD2. I have DVD Decrypter set up and use it in conjunction with AnyDVD. You have to have Decrypter set up properly to do this, but it does the trick for me every time.
I just got a new computer and I reloaded DVD Decrypter, RIP it 4 Me, and DVD Fab. I use Nero and DVD Shrink to burn. When I open DVD Fab it says that it has detected AnyDVD and I must turn it off. As far as I know I don't have AnyDVD on my new computer. The DVD software that came with my Dell Optiplx 745 are:
Roxio Creator 2.0.4
Cyberlink Power DVD
Windows Movie Maker
Is this just a glitch or am I missing something? Any help would be appreciated.
Click Start -> Search and type AnyDVD and see if it comes up with anything. Next search for slysoft. It seems that you may have downloaded a trial version of the program. DVDFab does not recognize it if the program is not running.
You can also look in your task manager to see if the program is running. If you downloaded RipIt4Me then you should have not problems. The program takes a little longer to run, but you will be able to make backups of your movies.
I use RipIt4Me sometimes, but as far as the Shrink part of the process I just analyse the information. Then I use VobBlanker to blank or delete information that I do not want. If you need information on that program I will be happy to supply you with it.
