Well it looks like it's a problem with the blue ray reader. Sony is going to replace it. That just means I have to wait even longer to play it.

I have a bit of a problem. When I hooked up my PS3, everything was going fine. Then, a humming or buzzing sound started along with "ghost" images or white lines moving from bottem to top of the screen. Even when I shut the PS3 down, the hum comtinues and there is small "static" on the dead channel. I used the supplied A/V cables and even went and bought component cables. Same on both. When I unplug the cable from the back of the PS3, it all goes away. As soon as I plug it back in, starts up again. And thee thing is that it cuts in and out. Sometimes it lasts for hours, sometimes minutes. And it does it during games, main menu, even Talladega Nights. I have heard mention of ground issues, but it is positioned and plugged into the same slot that the PS2 was in and it had no problems. Could there be a faulty connection inside the PS3?

it might be a connector error on the chips or wireing somewhere, or a capacitor that wasnt so great from its own assembly line. call your local sony support line and let them know.

But they all do sort of the same thing, and that is rearrange what you thought was real, and they remind you of the beauty of very simple things. You forget, because youre so busy going from a to z, that theres 24 letters in between... You turn on... tune in... and you drop out...

Actually, someone on the PS3 forum solved the problem: ground loop. I just put a 3 to 2 prong adapter on the power plug and that solved it.

So are you saying you just took the "ground wire" off?
That is a very stupid idea becuase if you have a power surg it will follow the ground wire, and if you don't have that wire it will follow the walles down to your foundation, and if you happen to be touching those walls you could be electricuted or it could set your house on fire.

And I don't see how it could be the groound wire because the problem is with the Video and Adio connector on the PS3!

Have you tried husing HDMI?
If it continues call Sony

I didn't take anything off. I went to the store and bought an adapter that lets you plug a 3 prog plug into it and it become 2 prong.

Apparently, the ground was conflicting with something else that is plugged in. So the adapter did the job!

Ok but you still run that same risk, I would use it the way you have it and contact Sony.

i would recommend atleast using a surge protector with this adapter to help prevent a catastrophie.

Well, according to the engineers that work at my station, there really is no danger since it is plugged into a surge protector. And according to othes on the PS3 forum, this is apparently a common problem since they went with the 3 prong plug rather than the old 2.

My PS3 has been working fairly well, except for the fact that sometimes when I play it, it starts to make this really loud humming sound. The PS3 itself gets pretty hot too. Is this normal, or do I have an overheating issue?

humming? maybe thats the drive spinning. whats in the drive when this sound starts? it could also be the hdd. i doubt its overheating, its warm because its getting all that heat out of there, and it may be recycling the warmed up air near the ps3 if you have it stored in something.

my bluray drive and my hdd will randomly make clicking or tapping noises here and there when being used. anyone else have this?

I don't think my Blu-ray drive or hdd make any clicking noises.

I'm pretty sure that the humming noise isn't the drive spinning, because it makes it even when I'm playing mp3s that I've ripped onto it. Maybe it's the hdd. If so, how can I fix that?

You're probably right that it's not overheating. I feel it blowing out a lot of air and right now it's currently enclosed in a case of some sort. I'm planning to get a new stand so that it's not enclosed, but for now I thought I'd leave it in there. It's fairly spacious inside it.

Ya i get the freaken humming noise to when i hook it up to my receiver. I havent tried hooking it up to my tv then to the receiver. But that is strange. Hopefully im getting an HDTV soon. I am surprised sony kept a stock of replacements for the 90 day warranty.

my firend got a ps3 recently and he wondered why the hdmi cable port was broken. sony needs to explain how to do this with a loose piece of paper printed outside the manual that people will see telling them how to set it up.

oh look at this little f*****
http://www.destructoid.com/playstation-3...se--28860.phtml

he's a nintendo fanboy who has people believe the ps3 "freezes" on purpose. the rep was meaning that the game will freeze for a few second and go back to the menu. he took it as the system was ment to crash over and over. what an idiot. someone subcribe to that site? please tell him off.

I am glad that the freezing up is nothing major and that it was done on purpose lol! Shit that is a pretty bold lie on there part and it almost makes the PS3 look worse than iut did whjen it was freezing, and everyone knew that it was only the ones in the Kiosks freezing because there was no vintalation. Oh well lets let sony go on with their lies as usual!

maybe because your playing ps2 or ps1 games and it has to shut down to start back up in the correct analog mode?

I bought a new shelf for my PS3 that's not so enclosed. So far the loud humming sound has disappeared and the PS3 doesn't get close to as hot as it did before. Seems like it solved the problem.
