Disclaimer: I have created this tutorial for users that are interested in flashing a Hitachi drive, and making backups of original games, not for Samsung users or those involved in hot swapping or anything of that nature. When followed correctly, these steps will lead to properly made games, that being said this is not the only route and should be taken with a grain of salt.

I am very thorough and detailed, so almost no question will be left untamed, but if so please properly inquire so that others can learn from your feedback.

Also for some software mentioned I cannot list the specific location of the download so please inquire through the use of a search engine.

List of needed software and hardware:
? Xbox 360 with Hitachi drive-has three varied circles when opened

If you?re not seriously interested in making a commitment to modding your 360 then do not read any further. The estimated cost could reach $170.00, but is well worth it and I think you will agree in the end. Also, back out now if you do not have a job.

Alright there are three sections to this tutorial, the drive flash, the backup, and the burn process. This is the hardware analysis;
I. Xbox 360 Flash
1. You need to open your Xbox 360 in order to flash the DVD drive even with the kit and the sata card.
2. Use this video tutorial, it not only tells you how to open it but it also explains how to close it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Adw-PMQTU4

3. You will need a torx 10 screwdriver, an empty CD or DVD plastic spindle top, and a flat head screwdriver from a glasses kit

4. Now that you have it open remove the power cord (white cap) and the sata cord (j-shaped plug) from the Xbox 360

5. Take the SATA card and install it in an open pci slot in your computer. A pci slot is where the Ethernet jack can be found. It will require unscrewing an open pci slot and fitting the card into the motherboard. Windows will automatically prompt you with a wizard installer and just simply follow the setup choosing not to install the RAID function, do not worry what it is just disable it. If you are still stuck look at this: http://www.dur.ac.uk/its/services/networ...l_network_card/

6. Now connect the provided power cord from the xeno or xecuter kit in the back of the 360 drive and the one side of the power kit. Make sure to properly install the plug, if not electrical shock or fire damage is eminent. Now connect the sata cord to one of the ports on the sata card and the other end to the 360 drive. Look at the diagram: http://www.cheapestmods.com/manuals/XODD_en.pdf
The other white plug with colored wires is a power cord from inside your computer you should have a few extras that you can unhook, say from near your DVD drive, and then click into the kit.

7. Now that all things are connected push down the debug button located on the kit, when your pc is booted it should turn red, if not try the other one until correct. When rebooting Windows, eject your Xbox 360 tray several times, to eliminate errors and maintain mode b status. Mode b is the secondary status of the Xbox 360 drive and will allow you to properly update your drive?s firmware to play backups. Once your computer has booted up double click on My Computer and check for a new drive, if done properly you should see a new drive with a new letter, right click on that drive. Then click properties, followed by hardware, followed by selecting the new drive. The name should be similar to what is on the label of the Xbox 360 drive. If all steps are passed, then Windows has detected your 360 drive.

8. Now you need to open your OPA v 2.3 folders, click until you come across the XL folder, here is where you will insert a cmd prompt. Right click on the folder and go down to open command window here and a new window will open up and read the current location of you saved OPA folder. If not, simply type cd f:\ this is for a change of directory and f should be replaced by the letter of your personal drive. Next simply type FLASH23S. BAT F 1672, remember F is your personal drive letter, do not assume you have the same amount of drives as I do. Also if any problems occur getting into cmd prompt, just boot your computer using networking. Press F8 when starting your computer, go to boot with networking and then hit enter, cmd prompt is sure to work after this. After typing in the FLASH prompt it should take about 3 minutes to flash your 360, hit the enter key if the flashing process slows down or stops, and finally shut down your computer when prompted on the screen.

Remove all kits and cables and close your computer and hook your drive back into the 360.

II. Dumping the .iso and .dvd files
-Create an empty folder in your documents to put the .dvd and .iso file in-
1. Insert an original Xbox 360 game into the Samsung pc drive
2. Start Xbox Backup Creator v2.3
3. Select your Samsung drive in the pull down menu
4. Click options and set Block and Sector Retry Limit to 5
5. Also set Drive Specific to sh-d162c and the Xbox 360
6. Click Read and then click start for Complete Backup
7. Select your file location and type in the name of the game
8. The process can take around 30 minutes then it will prompt you when finished

III. Burning the .dvd game file
1. Open Imgburn
2. Click Tools, then settings, then the write option
3. Click Layer Break Options for DL media
4. Click User Specified
5. Type 1913760 in the blank sectors box
6. Click please select a file and find the .dvd file that is 20-40 bytes in size (move cursor over the icon gather size information
7.On the bottom right click write speed and change to 4x
8. Finally click the big file to dvd button on the bottom left corner
9. If you choose to verify the burn after completion you will get several errors, just hit cancel and as long as the burn is a 100% it will work even if Imgburn thinks it will not
10. Do not wory about booktype crap because the pioneer 111d takes care of that automatically

That is it, you should now be able to play a xbox 360 backup of an original game.

If for some reason you have any questions, please post in this forum.

Heres my steps.

Have the files which contain DVD files and iso or 000 files.

Load those into imgburn or clone cd. (in imgburn ive added the layerbreak as above)

Burned at 2.4x and 4 with the same unplayable disc error when inserted into the 360. It just seems to be really hit and miss when im burning. For instance.

The other day i burned Top spin 2 and need for speed underground one after the other and they work fine. Now yesterday I tried to burn rainbow six vegas once, then the godfather. The first rainbow six didnt work. Then i tried godfather, the same again. Then I tried rainbow once more and it works fine.

SO i tried the godfather again and nope ! i cant understand it. Im using all the correct kit and media (verbatims) and nothing on the drive changes at all.

Any ideas as to what it could be?

make sure you are burning just the .dvd file
make sure your using a pioneer with updated firmware
burn at 4x and double check the layer break number
dump the game using xbox backup creator v2.3 and set the sector retry limit to 5 and well as the other sector

if you still cannot burn tell me every single step because somewhere along the line you are screwing up, every game you are talking about i have burned

Yeah, I f@cked up my question...lol. Question is, can i use my mobo sata ports over buying a pci card? Also, I know you said stick to what you said, but does it really matter what rom reader and burner I use? Such as having to be a 111d? I have a pioneer burner and pioneer reader. Are these usable or no?

You can use your mobo sata ports but in order to use Slax to get the Hitachi in modeB, Slax must support your SATA chipset. If Slax doesn't work and you don't want to get the Connectivity kit or risk the 2 wire method, then the 100% guaranteed PCI SATA card is the SIL3112. Slax will get any hitachi in modeB with this card. I bought mine here http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-ADAPTEC-ASH-1205...1QQcmdZViewItem

Once you flash a hitachi with opa 2.3 stealth, then pretty much any burner that can booktype DVD+R DL to DVD-ROM can be used. I'm not sure about your particular Pioneer burners, but the Pioneer 111d is the preferred burner for 360 games. I use a Sony DRU-810a and it hasn't given me 1 coaster yet.
In order to read 360 games you need to get a Samsung PC DVD-ROM found here.
http://cgi.ebay.com/SAMSUNG-SH-D162C-DRI...1QQcmdZViewItem
If you have this drive, it can be flashed with Kreon's firmware which allows 1 button stealth backups to be made of Xbox360 games without having to open the 360 ever again.
In closing, you can get away without spending any money at all and just having a compatiable chipset, or you can go all out.

Edit - Just noticed everything you need to know already has links in this thread. What SATA chipset does your motherboard have? Also, it never hurts to try Slax and see what happens...

Hi I have a question. I downloaded an iso of doa xtreme 2, sorry I wont give out info as to where. But anyways back to the point. When it was all down I unrared it and got a 7gb .iso file and a 40kb .dvd file. Now like with my ps2 game .iso I just simply burned them with Nero. But the .dvd file is weird I have no idea how to burn this game. Do I use Nero or do I use another software to burn the game? Thanks to anyone that can help.

PS - can I use my DL burner that was in my comp when I bought it or do I need to go out and buy the Pioneer 111d?

xxSaijin
