Hi,

I want to make a backup of Superman Returns. I always make backups of my movies using DVD Shrink 3.2 (latest and last). What I do is, if the movie is 85% or more I use DEEP ANALYSIS. If it is less than 85%, I use DEEP ANALYSIS + SHARP (default) AEC. Thing is, I never had to split a 2 and a half hour movie before. I only split 3+ hour long movies. Superman is at 60.6% with English 5.1 and English subs. I have never seen this before on a 2:30 movie. If I use DEEP+Sharp will it look good or should I split? Is it the bitrate that is incredibly high or what?

Thanks

i just got supermanreturns fullscreen , i just used dvdfab and now i'm ready to shrink it to a regular DVD+R , i just had a problem that when i used dvdshrink it frozed at 65% into the compiling then nothing just frozed ,i use dvdfab and shrink i have neroburner installed and i had no problems with any of the new releases execept for superman , soon as i figure it out i'll let you know a.s.a.p. i don't use any those extra software. dvdfab and shrink and Nero wich shrink i guess uses Nero for burning is all i used sometimes you can just back up the main movie not the whole thing with the menus and features ,i do that when the dvd movies are to big for just a DVD+R or -r i have dvd-dls but they are expensive i would rather save them for backing up hardrives and such but i really don't understand quite how the double layers work yet and i don't know the settings in dvdshrink how to burn a full dvd to a double layer ,i did that once and only got 1/2 movie when i play it in a dvd player ,lol . i figure out superman unless someone else answers your question before i get back to it ,peace out .

Hi Chocomog,

These are the settings suggested for the AEC setting on various compression levels:

@ 90-99.9% - use Max Sharp
@ 80-90% - use the Default Sharp
@ 65-80% - use Smooth
@ <65% - use Max Smooth

Try Max Smooth, I'm sure the movie's video will be just fine.

The default Sharp. I just tested it on a 30 inch screen.

i did it! i just used shrink! run shrink with the dvd movie in the dvd drive and on the file menu in shrink click "open disk" and point to the drive your dvd is in and hit back up ,now i have 2 dvd rw drives so i can put a blank disk in one and the move in the other so no need for swapping disk , and create a folder for your output and you'll have a copy on harddrive and on a dvd r rw . i tryed to discribe every detail wut i did for those that have a hard time understanding.

@ Chocomog and taylor30

The problem with compression levels that low is that during fast action scenes (quick changes in motion) you'll see sections of the video that are distorted/blurred/skipping-stuttering/video noise, motion artifacts become appearent during these scenes and can degrade video quality. I was able to see this happening when I backed up my DVD of King Kong which had a compression level of 55% and I used the default sharp setting, using the "Max Smooth" setting will help lessen the occurance of motion artifacts observed during fast action scenes.

I found it. It's only when you start the backup operation.
