hello,
I just went and bought 40$ SATA RAID Controller Card from a local computer warehouse but I am having trouble getting it hooked up. At first, I could'nt even get my computer to recognize it but after some messing around with it, I finally got it to work. Unfortunately, when I run my firmware to flash my 360, it wont recognize my via chipset. I have the xtreme 33 (or xtreme 3.3)firmware and I got ahold of a video of a person doing the flashing and I do everything that they do but when they type in the samread + serial number, their computer pops up the correct via chipset but mine doesn't. Mine only shows my ide and xtreme drives, not my via one that I need it to show. Does anyone have any suggestions???

Lol, your Xtreme drive is your Via chipset fella.Xtreme boot maker renames your chipset to Xtreme. I think they should make this more clear in some cases because it is confusing. Just select Xtreme and off it will go

damn, that sux. When I was trying to flash my drive I did push the number three key which was the xtreme drive and it started doing all the updating and such and then i power cycled my comp and my 360 but I didn't do the second half cause I thought it wasn't the right one. When I tried to redo it today, I got it to show the xtreme drive as number three again but when I select it, nothing happens. Did I mess it up??? My 360 works fine and everything but I don't know if I correctly flashed it or not and I don't have a backed up game to test it. Is there any other way to do this??? Thanks a bunch.

Try a few different commands. Try booting ur 360, then booting your PC. Make sure your using hex editied MTK Flash for VIA. Try booting your PC to dos then booting your 360. Usually, when nothing happens when you press 3, its just a matter of trying different timings. Try a few of the following commands

mtkflash r /m /sata orig.bin

mtkflash r /sata orig.bin

mtkflash r sata orig.bin

mtk flash r /m / SATA orig.bin

Just mess around with the command, you will get one that works

okay, first off. I see what your saying when you say to try different variations like turning on your 360 before the pc or turning the 360 on after powering the pc but I don't understand what your saying about the commands. Have you used the xtreme 33 firmware? That's the firmware that i am using and in the tutorial it doesn't say to use any of the mtk flash command. it says to use the samread and samhack commands. are you familiar with these??? im not at all saying that your wrong and i am grateful for your advice, its just that i am a bit confused. also, i am taking the sata card back to the store for a refund because it wasnt working so now all i have is my onboard sata card. i have a dell dimension 8400 pc and i used pc wizard and found that my chipset is an Intel i925X. do you think that i could just use this one or should i just order a via?

Ahhh crap yeah I forgot you were using Xtreme, which uses Samread to do its mtk flash automatically. Err in that case it should just be a case of the timings. Just try booting up at that time. Not sure if that chipset will work, you can try it. Best bet is prob just to buy a Via 6421 off newegg

huh..i have never heard of new egg before. i went to the site and looked up a chipset with the via 6421 in it and it turns out that the one that is on that site is the exact same as the one that i bought and still have. i think i am going to keep this chipset and have someone install it for me and the try to flash my drive. its hard to install cause you have to creat a boot disk and run bios and stuff. have you ever installed a sata card before??? if so, how??? thanks a lot.

Yeah I have installed a PCI sata card. It just a case of plug and play and installing the drivers. Do you live in the US?

When you bought it, it should have come with a Cd with the drivers on it. Look at this pic.

http://tinyurl.com/yy2zgz

If you didn't get that you can always go to the Syba website and they should have the driver there.

Actually, you don't need drivers since you are flashing in DOS. The card has a bios for operation in DOS.

Burn this image to floppy with Winimage www.winimage.com and follow instructions.

if that links not working use

ok...so how should i install the SATA RAID Controller Card then? i downloaded that file and opened the zipped folder and it contained two files in it: one was the IMZ file and the other was the text file. so should i burn the IMZ file to the floppy? where did you find these instructions? from the text file in the folder?

Yes. It worked fine. You dont have to mess with hex editing your key. Easy when you get the timing down.

Hi Swindler, Ive lost track of this thread a bit. Is your Sammy a MS25 or an MS28?Just had a quick flick through the thread and couldnt see anywhere where it was mentioned what version your Sammy drive is. Do you know what chipset your Sata card is?If you dont have a look on Control panel under your Start>Settings. Click on system, hardware, device manager, and look under SCSI RAID Controllers. Let me know what is listed here. Also, just to clear things up, what is your exact problem now?Sorry for all the asking, I have just lost track a bit of where we are up to now lol

EDIT: Soon as I posted, I re read the thread and first thing I saw was that you have a VIA 6421 card lol. So do you have this installed now in your Pc?That card is perfect for flashing a Sammy. Just need to know if your Sammy is MS25 or MS28

yeah, i have the via 6421L chipset but that isn't my onboard chipset. i just bought that one and am hoping to install it because that is the one that seems to be most popular in most tutorials. my onboard chipset is an Intel i925X. i bought my pc from dell like 3 years ago; it's a dimension 8400. my first problem is that i am having trouble installing my via chipset. it DID come with a cd but when i put it in my drive it just brings up a prompt window to open the cd. it doesn't automatically run it or anything. i don't really know how to install it and the place where i bought it from wants to charge me 70 dollars for the first hour so i figured that i would make a post and see if someone could help me. also, i think that i have the MS25 but am unsure on how to tell. how do i find this out? thanks a bunch and sorry for such a long post.

Right ok, well you have the easier drive to flash. Shut down your PC, open it up, and your looking to install the Sata card into a PCI slot on your motherboard. If you dont know what a PCI slot looks like, have a look in your manual for a motherboard layout diagram. There will be at least 2 PCI slots, maybe even 3 or 4. There about 5 inches long, and there might already be a card in one of the slots (sound card, ethernet adapter, graphics card etc) Ok so find an empty slot on your board, unscrew the blanking plate if there is a plate in there blocking the way. That should just be a simple unscrew job. Make sure you give the Sata card a good push down, because when I first installed mine I thought it was in and it wasnt. Close your PC up, switch it on, windows should detect a storage controller when it boots up. If it says it wants to install drivers, cancel that and install them yourself using these -

http://www.via.com.tw/en/downloads/image...er_vt6421_h.zip

Ok so install them, then reboot your comp and you should be set. A way to check if its installed correctly is look under System > >Hardware>Device manager in control panel, an look under SCSI/Raid controllers. Your VIA6421 should be listed there. Post back here when you have got your sata working fine
