Hmmm... I guess you haven't heard of Yellow Dog Linux 5.0 for the PS3 yet. It's an open source (OS) from "TerraSoft" specifically designed for the PS3, so you can do whatever you want on the net.
No it's not a hack, it's real/legit and available for the public to use or whoever owned any of the new PS3. However, I'm guessing down the road you can do more (i.e. upload/transfer games and more).

I think Yellow Dog is the latest, more members (people) are getting Yellow Dog now.
To download YDL 5.0 for PS3, simply "copy & paste" the link below on your browser, then ENTER.

To Install YDL on PS3 GUIDE. I've found this GUIDE very useful and clearly stated. This is perhaps one of the best guide I've seen so far on the net -- very easy with good explanation.
Damn, this YDL iso is not a joke. Tons of people are downloading that's why it's taking forever, LOL!!!
By the way, I was pretty satisfied that my SONY HDTV supported both 720p and 1080i. I can run them both, but I'm leaning more towards 720p, it's more crisp.
EDITED: to insert link/guide

The point is YDL 5.0 (from TerraSoft), it's specifially designed for the new PS3. Plus for the easy (later on) modifications because with YDL you can access to the PS3 HD easily.
