Quick question - i have the ydl 5.0 iso file, but not sure how to burn it to dvd, ive seen the programs to use on this forum, but do i need to burn it on the dvd as a iso file, or do i need to burn it as a different file like an .exe file.

Iso file

Microsoft: Ps3 cant do 60fps on 1080p. Guess what they were WRONG!!!!!
(11/19/05 - 9/19/06) Microsoft: Sony's 1080p support on PS3 is all Hype and Not Needed.
(9/20/06) Microsoft: Xbox 360 to add 1080p support.

Or you can use IMG burn also to burn it to a dvr +/-

ok, so i now have these DVD Decrypter programs, but im retarted and dont know how to do it. It says source is dvd player and destination is folder. I just want to get my yellow dog 5.0 iso file( which is in folder on hard drive)on a dvd to work. Do i first burn the file to dvd, than put back into dvd drive and use decrypter, and reburn it to a dvd?

Seems my quick question had babies, so i now have a few more questions to ask. I tried the IMG program to decrypt/burn ydl(thanks for the idea by the way) but im not sure if im using it correctly. It did its magic fine but noticed it didnt burn 1 iso file, instead it was about 3 folders and 2 files. When my ps3 is loading up the kboot everthing seems fine, i can type in stuff at the kboot prompt if need be, but i let it keep loading away, and than my screen goes black, almost looks as if i lose display communation. So am i a)burning this wrong, b) perhaps need a new ydl download file (it looks good though, like 3.4gig and in folders has yld 5.0 or c)mabey i need to copy 1 or both the otheros files into my ps3 somehow, at the moment i have them both in a PS3 folder, sub folder otheros on my flashdrive. Please suggest anything before i go insane....

anyways proble fixed. For those stuck like i was i fill ya in to a few things so you dont have to search and go insane like i did.

1)when burning iso file (mine was 20061127 file) i use the suggested program imgburn, when i burned it it became 4 folder and 3 files, which is correct.
2)i had the 2 kboot files on a flashdrive in a folder created called ps3, and in ps3 folder another folder where i put the 2 files in called otheros
3)hook up mouse, controller, keboard, flashdrive all in the 4 usb ports and put burnt dvd in system, when system is off, it will turn on when dvd is inserted
4)because i only have 480i-1080i and 480p support, at the first kboot prompt you get i had to hit the tab button on keyboard to cycle through to install text option.
5)than it did about an hour install after i had to hit enter a few times to accept a few changes that were already highlighted to me.
6)system will than spit dvd out after installation, at this point i had to reboot system, and kboot appeared again. At kboot i hit tab to get to the text480i option, because not having a real hd tv i had to make changes to display.
7)when i got localhostlogin prompt, i typed root than enter
8)typed in password you made at the start of installation than enter
9)type exactually this with no brackets
( wget http://www.freewebs.com/ps3linux/Xautoconfig-0.23-2.ydl.2.ppc.rpm ) than enter
10)type rpm-ivh /mnt/Xautoconfig-0.23-2.ydl.2.ppc.rmp than enter
11)type Xautoconfig than enter
12)type vi /etc/inittab than enter
13)look for id3:initdefault, and scroll up to it, hit insert on keyboard and change it to read id:5:initdefault, hit esc scroll to bottom and type :wq than enter to save it
14)type vi /etc/kboot.conf than enter
15)look for default=ydl and change it to default=ydl480i or default=ydl1080i, hit esc, scroll to bottom, typr :wq and enter to save
16)now type reboot and enter, and volla' ydl on your ps3

now my only problem is on 1080i setting, my font and windows are small and cant read them well, i have a 47" tv and im using the hd cables (3 for video, 2 sound), the only Progressive setting i have on tv is 480p, the rest are 480i-1080i, is there a way to enlarge font/windows in a setting option, or should i just use 480i due to not having the HDMI cord. I want the best possible display for ydl and internet...any suggest would help

The key to install VLC (or mostly anything else) on Yellowdog is to have your "Install Manager" setup correctly. I've actually managed to install VLC, Xine and MPlayer without incident (VLC works best, Xine has an issue with the sound and MPlayer has a problem showing things Full Screen)

The install manager Yellowdog uses is called Yum. Yum is a command line based tool but you can install a GUI version called Yumex. Once you have yum (yumex) properly configured you can choose what you want to install using the mouse press Install and sit back :-)

I have a step by step guide on my blog if you need a hand configuring Yum and installing Yumex

I can't download the YDL iso at my house (my connection is 26.4kbps), so I have to download it at school and transfer it to my computer through a USB hard drive so I can burn it onto a disc. The probably I've been consistently having is that whenever I try to move the iso to my computer (by copying, cutting, or even burning directly from the external hard drive) it says "the parameter is incorrect" and won't let me do it. Sometimes it says "cyclic redundancy error" or something like that. I really wish I could past this so I can finally get YDL on my PS3. Any suggestions?

Exactly why are any of you making a big deal about Yellow Dog Linux on the PS3 a this point in time?

You can't really do anything, unless you feel like using the Notepad or spreadsheet functions. You can't play any Linux games on Yellow Dog and who knows if you will be able to in the future?

I read Sony has purposely locked down the graphics functions of the PS3 in a attempt to prevent any unsavory program development. That being said, there is a good chance it will either never happen, or take quite a long time to see any 3D programs or games running under YDL.

I am simply going to wait and see if anything developes. You bet that if they get some decent emulators for YDL, or like some sort of Windows Emulator that works well enough to play Fallout 2, I will be installing YDL, but for now, it is simply worthless.

It would have been REALLY nice if Sony would have simply made the PS3 like Windows or MacOS compatable. I mean, they were trying to selling the PS3 as a computer for awhile, but with the limits of YDL right now, it is worth about as much as a old 486, computer wise.

Based on the post on the forum above, you may not have burnt the ISO properly ... other than that I have no idea

Normally, if your password is correct for root then the next thing you should see is the Yellowdog Windows Manager (looks a little bit like Windows). From the description you've given you see the login prompt but it's not accepting your password. I'd have to conclude it thinks the password you're typing in is wrong.

Does anyone know where I can get a guide for this? I've never used Linux before and my ratio is bad enough, so I want to know how to use it before I download it :)
