PLEASE help-DVD Shrink-Takes 3 Hours!

Does anyone have any ideas on how to help me here is my situation:
DVD FAB Rips my movie and stores it--that used to take about thirty minutes but now takes around 2 hours.
Then i Have DVD Shrink do it's bussiness....thats now taking me 2.5-3.5 hours
Finally Burning my back up w/ IMGBURN takes me another 2 hours where it used to take about 30 min. (At 4x burn speed)
---Under windows task manager in the Performance tab my computer says----
Physical Memory (K)
Total-----------228756
Avaliable-------88340
----(But it's usally around 115000 Avaliable when im Backing Up DVDs)
System Cache----135396
I also keep all my extra programs, pics, movies and stuff stored on my F: Drive which is a USB Connected 250 HD....
so my ultimite question is, can i make those programs work faster? Thanks for the help, afterdawn is the reason i can even backup my DVD's in the first place!!

more than likley its your pio/dma settings. go to device manager & pull up your hardware. go to ide ate/atapi controllers & make sure both are on dma not pio.

also if your current transfer rate says pio, right click that & select uninstall. Reboot your pc, windows will automaticaly change it ti dma, check both controllers & make sure they both say dma. you should be good to go.

right click on MY COMPUTER, then Left Click PROPERTIES, then left click on Hardware,then you will see it

Thanks for the help, i found it, but as it turns out they were already both on DMA...any other ideas?
(I dont know if it means anything but my computer moves pretty fast still other than those programs..)

i found under ny secondary controller when you click the advanced tab my current transfer mode was pio & that was my problem. What does your current transfer mode say?

i dont know what you mean by transfer mode, but i went to the settings and they both say DMA...even under advanced..

once you hit advanced you'll see a box at the bottom & its says current transfer mode. my problem was @ the secondary controller. specific name secondary ide channel,double click that channel, then advanced, & down at the bottom you'l see the current transfer mode box i speak of. tell me what it says. also check the primary above the secondary the same way.

your DMA modes are ok
try uninstalling your drives reboot and let windows pick them back up
also uninstall and do a clean reinstall of your burning programs
a firmware update for the drives/burners may help
and make sure your are keeping your system clean as in a disc cleanup and defragging often

after you uninstall the programs run CCleaner first then do a disc cleanup and defrag reboot then reinstall the programs

All you need to do is hit Ctrl+PrintScreen button on your keyboard to copy the desktop.
Now open up your MS Paint and then choose Edit then Paste and it will paste the image to your canvas. You will then have to save and open an image editing program to crop and resize what part of the desktop you want.
You can do this with Photoshop as well. Start Photoshop then choose new. Once the new canvas is brought up choose Edit and paste and your image should be on the canvas to edit (Crop or Resize and add text)
Now go to photo bucket or Imageshack and get an account to host your images(both are free). After you sign up you can then upload the images to the hosting site and link them by following the below steps.
If you use Imageshack you can place a thumbnail of the image and have people click on it to get the full size (Imageshack has a link you can copy and paste for thumbnails on forums. Make sure you copy that text and link it to the site when posting your image).
If you do not use the thumbnail link or use Photobucket then you need to resize the images to fit the pages of the forum. Plus add the below UBBCode to link the image to your post. (All UBBCodes are shown above where you type your reply or choose to make a new thread)

NOTE IT CAN SAY DMA MODE BUT CAN BE IN PIO MODE
After the Windows IDE/ATAPI Port driver (Atapi.sys) receives a cumulative total of six time-out or cyclical redundancy check (CRC) errors, the driver reduces the communications speed (the transfer mode) from the highest Direct Memory Access (DMA) mode to lower DMA modes in steps. If the driver continues to receive time-out or CRC errors, the driver eventually reduces the transfer mode to the slowest mode (PIO mode)..

What is DMA mode?
DMA (Direct memory access) mode is a high performance mode for transferring data to and from devices, in particular, to CD and DVD burner devices.
The burner devices can function in either DMA or PIO modes. DMA mode allows the processor to transfer large pieces of data with very little software overhead - therefore requiring low CPU utilization. In this mode, high speed burning can be performed in background with other programs running.
PIO mode requires CPU processing for every few bytes sent to the device, so that CPU utilization becomes very high when trying to burn at high speeds.
WORKAROUND
To re-enable the typical, or faster, transfer mode for an affected device:
1. Double-click Administrative Tools, and then click Computer Management.
2. Click System Tools, and then click Device Manager.
3. Expand the IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers node.
4. Double-click the controller for which you want to restore the typical DMA transfer mode.
5. Click the Driver tab.
6. Click Uninstall.
7. When the process completes, restart your computer. When Windows restarts, the hard disk controller is re-enumerated and the transfer mode is reset to the default value for each device that is connected to the controller.

hey it worked: notice the current transfer mode down @ the very bottom , not the above boxes although the above boxes need to say dma. my problem was the current transfer mode reverted to pio after numerous read errors. right click the problemed controller & chose unistall. reboot the ps & windows will chage back to dma. sorry to beat a dead horse but i think this is our problem with the 3 hour encoding ect.
