I tried to backup Crank using AnyDVD ( I think it was version 6.0.9.0 at the time ) and DVD Shrink. The files copied to my HD and I can see the files when I use Windows Explorer to see them, but Roxio doesn't show the files to burn to a dvd. Any suggestions on burning the complete dvd?

Am I able to just use DVD Fab or DVD Decrypter to recopy the files and see them? I tried running DVD Shrink twice on the files first with AnyDVD 6.0.9.0, the 2nd time with the latest version, but the files still didn't show on Roxio or CloneDVD.

I'm retrying Crank now. I just used DVD Fab to copy it back to my hard drive with the latest AnyDVD. CloneDVD2 was also able to detect the files on my HD to burn, so I'm trying that now, too. I'll update after I watch it.

UPDATE1: CloneDVD did not burn the files from DVDShrink onto a disc readable by my XBox. DVDFab files are readable by my version of Roxio, I'm trying that now...

It appears that the files burned to a dvd after running the files on my HD thru DVD Fab again. Yahoo!!!

Update: Just finished watching the movie and the menu and movie both work flawlessly.

I used AnyDVD and Clone with no probs whatsoever. What media are you using? What burner? Could need to upgrade to better media...

I have gotten cyclic redundancy errors when using a backup to make another. Thats when I use 1Click...

With 57.3% on video quality, meaning you'll need to transcode 42.7% of compressions. With Nero Recode's settings "AA + HQSR + Assign Best Quality to Main Movie" or simply use Recode's AEC Changer to "Maximum Smooth" should be acceptable. Again, mabye it's only me, but like I said; "all I care for is quality and longevity." However, the choice is yours.
i dont understand what u mean by transcoding the remaining percent. I thought (im kinda new at this now) that the 57% compressed was all there was. i didnt know that u can do things to the remaining percent. Ive read thru many faqs on this board. maybe i missed something.

I had trouble with Crank. Despite using AnyDVD (6.1.0.7) with DVDShrink 3.2 for months without a glitch, it would not work for this particular DVD. I cleaned the DVD and burner, tried using RipIt4Me with FixVTS and DVD Decrpyter...no luck. Tried using DVDFabDecrypter 3.0.5.5 without success. In the end, I tried running the original DVD through VobBlanker 2.1.0.0 with AnyDVD running in the background and then through DVDShrink, and it worked! While I don't fully understand why it worked...the important thing is that it did! Apparently, some of us have worse luck than others it appears.

don't confuse fabdvd decrypter with fabdvd platimum. decrypter is the freebie and it will never give you what you pay for.

Both Crank and The Descent have our buddies at AnyDVD stumped, I think. I shrank both with Nero Recode (DVD Shrink) wouldn't read either of them and when I went to burn with Nero, I got an error message that said a file (VTS_12_01.VOB) was missing and the resulting burn MAY not be DVD compliant. Then it asks if I wish to proceed? Sure, why not. So I proceeded with the burn; both copies play just fine--only problem is that Lion's Gate forces you to watch their idiotic previews before you can get to the main menu. Gives you plenty of time to get up and fix a drink, though so all is not lost.

The above is my original reply when you'd asked me about transcoding a "full disc" backup.

Let me rephrase this again... since you want to backup CRANK as a "full disc." So, I have Nero Recode to transcode a "full disc" via Nero Recode's enhancements quality "Advanced Analysis + High Quality Slow Recording + Assign Best Quality to Main Movie" on a "quality video ratio" of 57.3% (meaning that it will need 42.7% of compressions to transcode a full disc), and with a lot of compressions (42.7%) I didn't really like the final result simply because I owned a 55" Sony Widescreen HDTV. Therefore, I preferred a "Main Movie + Menu" only. Note that I even have VobBlanker to delete & blank some useless menus as well.

In another word, what I really meant to say is that while using "AA + HQSR + Assign Best Quality to Main Movie" or Nero Recode's AEC Changer from Solomon to "Maximum Smoothness," Nero Recode should produce a decent quality, but I preferred "no compression" and burned it straight with Nero Burning Rom.

If high quality for a full disc backup is desired, then you need to get away from transcoders and go to encoder software. I purchased the DVD RB Pro, but there is a freeware version. I use CCE but there is the free Hank's encoder. It's just a little slower, but does a good job. Encoders are slower, but higher quality when it comes to higher compression levels. So, with RipIt4Me and the free RB you can get the job done with high quality. Normally a backup will take about 1 1/2 to 2 hours on my system.

Is there a way to update my Nero (that came with a DVD burner) to have Nero Recode?
