is the only way that it will be upgradeable by uninstalling then reinstalling the chip? that might be a bit risky after a while...
Will the be a DVD upgrade, maybe?

i wouldn't buy a chip unless it was SW/download upgradeable like the DMS IV on the PS2. They should also give you the ability to switch it off using some controller buttons

I was looking at the wiikey and one of the features list: Boots different NTSC region Wii games/backups , what does that mean? does it mean that i can play wii imports from other regions?
I was also wondering that now that the cyclowiz is updateable, is it possible that a future update will allow it to play wii imports (bec its confirmed that it doesnt play wii imports now as it is)?

Should I Buy a Cylowiz or should I wait for a better chip with better Features? does the cyclowiz do problems? Or is it perfect?

i have a spot where i am going to put it when i get the chip right by the usb port on the back. u have to put a hole for the switch in the plastic casing but there is nothing in the way as long as its not this huge ass switch. when you open the system up you should see the spot i am talking about in between the fan and the usb port

The Wii backup scene is progressing rather fast, wasn't this way with gamecube. Guess it has to do with how successful the console is.
I'll get my Wii as soon as Pre-modded Cylcowiz'D Wii's hit the online market.
Also, what do they mean by it won't run Wii homebrew? Will I be able to play Wii games by downloading them on torrents and burning them on regular DVD-R's??

yes you can do that (what you mean are the backups),
but you can not play like homemade emulators and divxplayers on the wii code.
But you can on the gamecube code.:P
Something like that.
thank you all

homebrew is really anything developed by the home user community and not commercially available. It can be games, movie players, music player, remote control software (psp), just about anything that wasn't developed by the big corporations. (usually free too)

What do you think about the wiikey? Is it worth something or should I go with the Cyclowiz? The wiikey seems to have some added feats.
Is it possible to flash chips so they can play imports? Well I don't wanna change a modchip once it's working.
So many questions so little time.^^

I would go with a CycloWiz as the Wiikey isn't going to be upgradeable. i know the Cyclo Wiz only supports D2A and DMS chipsets which is about all of them. The latest Wii's have D2B chipsets which are not currently compatible but an upgrade is going to be available. The serial numbers for relevant chipsets can be found here: http://www.techwizad.co.uk/wii.htm So all new Wii owners looking for a modchip should make sure that it is D2B compliant

the homebrew scene needs to get their collective arses in gear & start developing apps and GAMES for the Wii. I'd like to see what some of the better programmers out there could do with the Wiimote :)
As for playing imported games, there is not a huge diff between the Gamecube's Japanese releases & the U.S. Now Europe should be concerned as many games may not make it over there. But don't you guys have to deal with the PAL/NTSC video/audio sync too? Japan is (luckily) NTSC like us so their games play without any other adjustments. D*mn Nintendo & their stupid region lock out!
Lastly, the PS2 scene should be noted as creating thousands of different apps for the FAT & slim. If the Nintendo community of devs try, they can probably match the PS2 scene if they want to...

The News on Maxconsole said the wiikey is upgradeable just like the cyclowiz. My primary Problem is I live in Europe and I would like to play NTSC games. I know that at the Moment the modchips don't support different regions, but I would like to know if it is possible to upgrade the modchip to play all Imports later on.
I don't like the idea off uninstalling one Modchip and getting another.

How do you verify that you indeed have the real code and not a random collection of hex, have you tried the code?

WiiKey is supposed to start shipping on Feb 20th ... so.. I think some review is goign to come out very soon.. especially for the part where it allow US NTSC to play JP NTSC (verse versa)
