just to clarify.. so the mentioned chips (wiikey/wiinja) would work with the new Wii s right?

just curious then.. why does the 3.0U update matter? how does it have an affect on the mod? and is there a way to mod D2B? D2C?

No, the new D2C chipset is not moddeable, not currently at least, the D2B still can. The 3.0U updated matters to new wii game that coming out. So far the 3.0 firmware updated affect the wiikey. The freeloader doesn't worked, and the config disc too. it possibly had something to do with the way wiikey boot the game.

I have searched through most of the forum looking for an answer, however I am still not completed clear about some stuff.

1. I purchased my Wii in about January of this year, and I had it modded with the WiiKey (I think, is there a way to check?). I have never burned any disks for updating the firmware, or the software on the Wii OR the WiiKey. I don't have any setup disks for the WiiKey. I have however, allowed the Wii to auto update itself, and I believe I am now at firmware version 3.0, since I can see the digital clock. I have so far burned and played only NTSC(U) games as I have a NTSC(U) Wii (I am from Canada actually).

The question is, does the Wii auto flash the firmware, and if not, that must mean I have the original, or slightly after the original version of the Wii firmware. If that is the case, should I flash it to the latest version? Furthermore, I have not had any problems with my Wii as of yet, however, should I start updating the firmware on both the Wii and the WiiKey for any reason?

2. I have backed up my PAL version of The Legend of Zelda, so I am assuming this will brick my Wii if I try to play it, right?

3. What kind of things can I do with the WiiKey besides playing games, is there any sort of homebrew community like the Nintendo DS?

Thanks guys.

I ordered the WiiKey v3 from Mod Chip Central on the 5th for $17 each and received the chips on the 10th with out issues, this wasn?t through eBay either. They were sent to me from a personal address to my address no business origin or label reference. I bought a Wii last Friday the 7th from Target who has plenty of them, unfortunately it is the D2C chip so my modchip is no good for this unit.

QUESTION: does the Wii auto flash the firmware?

Not that I?m aware of you need to have an internet connection go into the options screen #3 and manually update or possibly burn an ISO of the update to flash it through the drive, others please correct me if I?m wrong here.

QUESTION: 2. I have downloaded a PAL version of The Legend of Zelda, so I am assuming this will brick my Wii if I try to play it, right?

This is a no-no my assumption here is you do not have the original disc and you are stealing software, that is not condoned.

QUESTION: 3. What kind of things can I do with the WiiKey besides playing games, is there any sort of homebrew community like the Nintendo DS?

To get answers to what the WiiKey can do go to wiikey.cn and as to other sites to get insight and help you can try one of many, Nintendo-Scene.

ahem... stealing software eh? Never heard of it... yeah sorry about that, what I meant to say was:

I backed up a copy of my PAL version of The Legend of Zelda, will it brick or semi-brick my NTSC Wii?

Thanks, and sorry again about that.

The answer is yes you could!

Your best bet is to update your Wii to the current revision level which should be 3.0U for you. Then you should run the Brick Blocker on the out of region ISO before burning it to disc. This seems to be the best route to go and there is a complete thread on this started by larrylje which has the link to the Brick Blocker 1.3 program as well.

There are some good people working on this and are very close to a solution, you may be able to use your WiiKey down the road. Their solution will be for a PIC though, it is team yaosm, and you can follow their thread if you would like found on psx-scene forum titled "d2c chipset", but please don't chime in on the thread unless you are technically savvy, otherwise you will disrupt what they are doing.

I got drunk the other night and sent my wii to be modded here:

http://www.xbox-entertainment.co.uk/

Now i've found out they are not an official reseller! Does that mean i will get a fake or cloned chip that will cause me problems?
Has anyone dealt with them before?

Before you order any chip for your Wii console guys, you should check the serial number of your Wii using the the link below to make sure you do not have a Wii console with the D2C chipset.

Wii Serial Checker

There is a new chip that has been just released for these Wii D2C consoles, the name of the new chip is D2CKey
We heard that these chip's will be in stores around the middle of Oct, but the D2CKey will be 28-wires and much harder to install. Currently the D2CKey is the only solution for D2C consoles.

The official site for the D2CKey is www.d2ckey.com

fiend06 - Not likely to happen. It looks like this is a programmable D2C (MN102LF) chip that they are piggy-backing to the drive chip. They have taken a D2B ROM and flashed it to the new chip, enabling the serial Xfer, plus added some extra programming so that an Atmel or PIC isn't required, like the WiiKey was. They could make this truly piggy-back with out the wiring, it would clip right on top of the board chip with the new chip socketed to the board chip, if there is clearance for that. We will probably see something down that line eventually.

I have 3 brand new WiiKeys if anyone is interested.

i understand that it is a "bypass" for the new chip and i give props to those that created, but i remember back in the day of PS mod chips, that as time went by, the number of connections dropped. the first one i did for the PS had 20 wires, and the last one i did was only 6. i predict something similar. good luck to those trying it out and please let us all know how it's going!
