I am trying the SAMREAD-SAMHACK method and while doing samread everything works fine and then when I try samhack and press enter it says "halted bin for xbox does not exsist aborting. Does anybody know what im missing here?

it probably can't find the bin file.
i would do the following:
mtkflash r /m orig.bin
now take this and make it into a xtreme 52 using the makextremefirmware.cmd within the xtreme 52 folder.
next type mtkflash w /m x52x.bin
use the 10 second trick
x is whether its a b c or d
thats all ur done

Okay. I want to update to a newer firmware (currently running xtreme 4.2a). I used Xtreme Boot Maker and the SAMREAD/SAMHACK options. PS2Menace said that having a MS28 drive, you don't need to use the 0800enable disk since you can use the bad flash recovery method with a VIA VT6421 chipset. I know this question was kind of answered a few posts up, I just want to know if there is anyhitng to be weary of, as I don't want to brick my 360.

With the VIA 6241, you don't need the enable 0800 disc as you can bad-flash a m28 and m25 with the card. Just don't use Samread/Samhack because it doesn't really give you the option to check your firmware and I've bricked a M28 with Samread/Hack before.

I purchased a pci via vt 6421 with 2 sata ports, an ide port and 4 usb ports. In my device manager the card comes up as via vt 6421 raid controller, now it is the correct chipset from what I have read. I use the xtreme boot maker v0.3.6.1442 to make a bootable floppy and start up the 360 and cpu just like the tut says but when I use the mtkflash cmd get a drive not found error does anyone know what I may be doing wrong I have even tried the samread cmd and I get the same error

Never mind I figured it out there are 2 sata ports one is internal (primary) and an external (secondary) I did not even think about that! with the drive pluged into the external port the cpu could not see it once I plugged it into the internal port the cpu saw it I hope this may help someone in the future!

Ok I'm a little confused, I just recently got a MS28 drive :( and I havn't successfully flashed it yet. I was wondering what does the bad-flash recovery method do? Does it put it in 0800 mode/modeB? I got a VIA card coming this thursday so hopefully I'll have success. I already flashed a Samsung MS25 and Hitachi LG GDR-3120 078FK which were super easy.

The only reason you'd ever need the enable 0800 disc is if you intend to hook the Samsung drive up to the PC and make your own rips with it. The firmguard... which is disabled with the 0800 disc, can be by-passed with the 10 sec trick and the VIA card.

I got the PCI via 6421 card and I followed your tutorial but it does not work for me. First the boot maker you have is version 3.6 but the link you gave is is for older version 3.2, it does not have same options.
My problem is that after mtkflash command instead of getting "xtreeme primary" I get "dC 00, Master/slave a0" and thats all, it stops there.
It does not make sense. Can you help me

I tried that too, but is different than your explanation. That new version has different commands, it has xFlash(xbox serial code) and XRead(serial code). But still I have the same problem of dc 00, master/slave a0

It tells you to use xhack and xread or whatever but you can still flash with mtkflash. All xtreme bootmaker does is hex edit your mtkflash file for you and make a bootdisk.
Make sure you don't have any other PCI SATA cards installed when you run xtreme bootmaker. If you do, it will not give you the correct I/O.

mtkflash commands are simple and sensible! unless you are to cheap to reboot i think it lets you do a full flash in one boot to dos? i think its only for xtreme 3.2 since you can't really ad the haxed file in their since u need ur original to make it.
do the following:
in dos:
mtkflash r /m orig.bin
now go to windows and take ur orig.bin which you will find in ur usb key or floppy (which ever u used) and put it in the xtreme firmware folder.
use the make xtreme firmware.cnd in the xtreme firmware folder to make x52x.bin (x is which one u choose a, b, c, d). take this, ull find it in xtreme folder, and put it in ur usb key or floppy (which ever u used)
boot to dos and in dos:
mtkflash w /m x52x.bin (use the 10 second method for ms28)
u can't go wrong

YES YES YES!!! THAT WAS IT!!! It was the bootmaker. After I used th eone that you posted for me the 3.6 version it worked as your tutorial said, it was very easy, it took me 10 min to do it. You cant even imagine what frustration I endured.

Hey, Erm i was thinking of flashing the xbox360 however my pc is only like half built and is no fit state to boot yet. But i do have access to a mates pc which has sata ports on it im not sure which chip set it is or that. Would it make difference? or does it just have to have sata ports?

Question I have with this tut is that when I get the orig and stuff, it comes up as a .avg not .bin, what is the work around for this as I do not want to completely screw something up?....
I am trying to update a box to 5.2 had 3.2 on it got the orig with the samhack/samread method. Trying this new method to do the 5.2a.
Any help is nice.

When you do the mtkflash read command you specify what file name you want it to be. example
mtkflash r /m /sata lookhere.bin
mtkflash r /m /sata iamoriginal.avg
I don't know what file extension it puts if you don't specify one yourself.
As long as the file is readable in fw toolbox with a valid key and the file is 256KB then you should be ok.. Never seen this problem before so...

If you have a VIA chipset then you can flash the m25 and m28 with this method. If your SATA chipset is compatable with mtkflash then you should be ok. If you have a Hitachi drive... hopefully you have a SIL chipset. SIL3112 works perfect for all hitachi's except the 0078/0079FK drives. VIA 6241 works for pretty much everything though I don't trust it on Any hitachi other than the 0078/0079
