Could someone help me with my problem. I've got a ms28 Samsung and I'm trying to update the hacked firmware, but it says all the time that it can't find any drives (No drive found). What could be wrong? Is it because I had to make the boot usb disk in a windows that boots from a SATA hard disk so the program did't get the right I/O information of the VIA6421 SATA card or is there something else wrong? Could the solution be that I should boot from a IDe hard disk and make the boot usb disk that way? Any ideas?

Problem solved. Just had to turn on the pc first and when it booted to the DOS, then I had to turn on the X360. Thanks to you all.

Hi everybody.. great tutorial..
Could someone help me please..
I have a samsung ms28 drive that had been flashed before i got it(december 2006).
I would like to update the firmware to 5.3.
The thing is i don't have my original.bin firmware as i did'nt flash it.
Would i be able to update the firmware by using xtreme bootmaker and just following the procedures to update original firmware( x read xxxx xxxxx X flash xxxx xxxxx)or do i need to somehow retrieve my original firmware key?
Im also confused about enable 0800 ,
Do i need to use this to reflash?

Thanks alot to anyone that answers my question and shares their knowledge with me.

You can just use xtreme boot maker, it will automatically retrieve the key from the firmware currently on the drive, if you are using a VIA 6421 chipset, you can just use the bad flash method, you dont need the enable 0800 disk, but if you are not using a via 6421 chipset, then you will need to use the enable 0800 disk, what this disk does is, it puts the drive in a mode, so that the firmware can be read and edited, but this is not required if you use the bad flash method.

TROUBLES
Great tutorial I have used this method on three 360?s so far with ease. Now I have a new drive to flash and my OS is different, Vista Ultimate 64bit and have M28 drive and a VIA 6421 PCI SATA Card that now reads as a VIA RAID 3249 because the driver update changed it no idea why. Vista 64 maybe? It does work with utilities and checks out.
To the point, using xtremebootmaker.0.3.6 and flashing iXtreme_Samsung_v1.2_revC
I get unknown firmware ?Unknown MD5: C91C95B51D77823F2CFBC60FE538A841?
Proceed with caution message. Then biggest troubles with detect ID-I/O and msinfo32 has this
Name VIA RAID Controller - 3249
Manufacturer VIA Technologies, Inc.
Status OK
PNP Device ID PCI\VEN_1106&DEV_3249&SUBSYS_32491106&REV_50\4&DC268A3&0&5080
I/O Port 0x0000DF00-0x0000DF0F
I/O Port 0x0000DE00-0x0000DE0F
I/O Port 0x0000DD00-0x0000DD0F
I/O Port 0x0000DC00-0x0000DC0F
I/O Port 0x0000DB00-0x0000DB1F
I/O Port 0x0000D600-0x0000D6FF
IRQ Channel IRQ 18
Driver c:\windows\system32\drivers\viamrx64.sys (6.0.6000.6162, 136.00 KB (139,264 bytes), 10/3/2007 11:56 PM)

Device ID 11063249
I/O DF00DD00 Is this right?

What do I put in Device ID and I/O Port?
Do I rename the firmware and to what?

I think that the firmware installed for your sata controller now is a generic sata driver for several VIA chipsets, if you can find the standard driver for the vt6421 thats compatible with vista 64-bit, then you might be able to sort the problem out, the Device ID & I/O Port values sometimes change after you reinstall or upgrade windows, happens on my computer, so you cant make an xtreme boot disk using the same values as before. Not 100% sure though, maybe you can, but it did not work for me when I attempted to do it that way.

Hey thanks very much just after I posted I found another tutorial that explained the correct way and in no time SUCCESS. Yeah now I have another 6 to 8 months to the thing melts down and becomes a boat anchor my third one now well good flashing practice loll
Thank you so much. The driver is the right one and is for several cards but x64 vista and the only one from the manufacturer?s driver page. Checked into it.

i need some help.

did this firmware update to an ms25 and an ms28 a while back.

i ended up selling my console, got tired of it.
friends broke, and now i've got to fix it.

his original flashed drive was an ms25,
he bought an ms28 as a replacement.
because they are supposedly less prone to the open
tray error, which is what happened to his ms25.

so anyway, do you need to spoof the firmware or something?
will the 360 know that its an ms28 and not function,
if i were to flash it?
i remember reading something about being able to spoof
the firmware, possibly with samhack.
but i cannot seem to find this info anymore.
also, would i be able to pull the key for the drive,
off that old one if its doing an open tray error?

not really looking forward to spending time on this project haha.
so thanks for any help, much appreciated.

No you don't need to spoof when using a MS28 to replace a MS25. I just did the very same thing a week ago. If the MS25 firmware was already hacked to to where you want it then you can dump it and flash it directly on the new drive. The only difference in any Samsung drives are the firmwares and labels.

I have the ms28 and the via vt6421 chipset and I HAVE TRIED BOTH XTREME BOOTMAKER as well as Iprep and each time I select the usb device in the setup it starts but hangs at the DHCP section giving me only"...." Do you have any idea what causes this or is it just that I need to wait for more than 3-4 minutes for it to continue?

Well buy a new 360 cause you didn't do the proper steps. First, MAKE SURE YOUR ORIG.BIN file is good with FWToolbox. Then make 10 copies of it and store them everywhere.

Hopefully you can pull your hacked fw off the drive but I'm pretty sure you will have all 0's or F's as the key. In that case, but a new 360 and read the first page of this thread more carefully.

If you have all F's then you need a new 360, not a new drive.
