This is a tutorial to getting PS1 games to play on your PSP, converting to eboots to custom icons. I have seen so many threads asking how to put PS1 games onto PSP, so I decided to write a guide.

This is all from experimentation and googling and trying tons of programs until it worked, so there may be a better way.

TOC
1. Converting to Eboot.pbp and keys.bin
2. Custom game ICONS
3. In-game Manual/Guide

You will need

1. 3.02 oe-b PSP or higher, I'm using 3.03 oe-c
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/460892
2. Dr.POP, for the keys.bin file
http://dl.qj.net/Dr.-POP-PSP-Homebrew-Ap...12281/catid/151
3. PSX2PSP, for eboot.pbp and custom icons
http://dl.qj.net/PSX2PSP-GUI-for-Popstat...12095/catid/193
4. Hot Shots Golf 2 eboot.pbp and keys.bin files (you're going to need to find this yourself, its illegal if you don't own the game, use GOOGLE)

STEPS

Dr.POP

I'm going to assume you already have the ISO or image file, BUT YOU DO NOT NEED TO BACK IT UP TO YOUR HARDDRIVE IF YOU HAVE THE ORIGINAL
1. After downloading you will get a .rar file. Extract it into a folder called dr.pop on your desktop. there should be 2 files - a DrPOP.exe, DrPOP.pdb, and a folder named support, with a bunch of files on it.
2. Make sure you have Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0.50727 installed, otherwise DrPOP won't work
http://www.toggle.com/6171/Microsoft_.NET_Framework_2.0.50727.htm
3. Start up DrPOP.exe. It should look like this

4. Find you image file of the ps1 game and drag it into DrPOP. If you have the actual CD, put it into your Disk Drive and drag the drive itself into DrPOP.
5. Now, you could be done already. Just hit the "Go Button" and it will ask you for what level of compression, and then your done after the status bar is finished. However, at least for me, I could not get custom icons and backgrounds for my game to work (Final Fantasy IV). All that would appear was the ps1 icon above, and the name would be like "(Unknown), Disc ID was generated". I have not tried for other games, but if someone has gotten it to work, please correct me.

PSX2PSP

This is the program where i got the custom icons and name to work for FFIV.

1. The files you get after downloading should be PSX2PSP.exe, a readme.txt, a files folder with stuff inside, and pics folder with empty folders. ignore the pics folder.
2. Place inside the folder "Files" - keys.bin and eboot.pbp of hot shots golf 2, and the popstation.exe, the cygwin1.dll, and cygz.dll from the support folder of DrPOP.
3. Start up PSX2PSP. For the first selection, FIND THE EBOOT.PBP GENERATED BY DRPOP OF YOUR GAME. It should look like this

4. Select the output folder for the next one
5. Type in the name of your game in game title
6. Type in the name of what you want your save title to be.
7. The game id should be automatically filled in when you selected the eboot.
8. For icon image, select the icon of the game you want to use. For some info on how to make them, see below.
9. For background image, select the picture you want the background to be when you select the game. For info, see below.

10. Click on Options at the bottom. Here you can select compression level, and default stuff like the icons, output folders, if you want. There should be one default warning image that looks like this

You can choose to have that, but i think it automatically creates the pic and selects it for you when you use the program.
11. Click the Convert button to get your eboot.pbp and keys.bin file. Place them in a folder, doesn't really matter what the name is, and then connect your PSP with usb mode. Place it in the PSP->GAME folder.

12. Now exit usb mode. Scroll over to the game and select memory stick. If I wrote this guide right, or you did this correctly, you should have your own custom icon and background of you game! And running should be almost perfect.

ICONS

1. Go to an image editing program, like Photoshop.
GAME ICON
2. Create a new image, 144 x 80 pixels. Name it ICON0, and save it as a png file. This is what I had

BACKGROUND
3. Create an image, 480 x 272 pixels. Name it PIC1 and save it as a png file. This is what I had.

MANUAL

When you play a ps1 game, and press HOME on you psp, there's the option of software manual. Wonder what that was? Use this guide

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/455469

If you have any questions, comments, suggestions please post, even if it is to better my guide writing skills. I hope that people who know more than me in this are will also help to answer, since I am not very technical in PSP, I just know how to do the stuff, and solving problems is going to be tricky. I've also verified this method with Chrono Trigger, and it works perfectly.

Thanks to: Dark_Alex for 3.03 oe-c, deejizzle for the document.dat guide, AD for this awesome forum, others who made it possible to do the stuff in the guide, and you for reading!

Why the easy way with one software when you can download 3?
Just get
http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/994
extract all files to one folder and you are ready to go.
Supports customizing everything, compressing, you can check the savegame code for multi-disc-games and if you want PAL games on 3.03 OE you can patch them with this software.
It also copies the files to the right folders on your PSP.

Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.

What is the reason for needing Hot Shots Golf 2? Do I need HSG2 for the Popstation program as well.

I have Final Fantasy 7 eboot. and keys, but when I try to start the game it says "The copyright protection is invalid" and the game doesn't start. What's the problem and how can I fix it?

I have a 3.11 firmware, so what should I do? Should I wait for the downgrader or should I buy a new psp that will have the TA-802? If I buy a new PSP right which firmware would the PSP come with?

i'm sure they will come out with a 3.11 downgrader, they always do. but if u can't wait, go ahead and find a 1.5 psp that someone is selling. THe firmware that comes in a new psp is really random, but all the ones in a store are probably the same, since they were shipped out together.

3.11 was hacked too, using the same programs the devs used when hacking 3.10.

Hi, I have a v3.10 OE - A PSP. I have followed your instructions exactly and many others on the web but everytime I've made a PSX eboot file, including the keys.bin, I get the message, "the game could not be started. The file is corrupted".
Can anyone help me?

to change the kernal, go to recovery mode (competely turn off ur psp, then reboot and hold R-trigger, it should be somewhere in the recovery menu)

I tried changing the kernel now but it doesn't change anything. I have managed to get a game working but its the Hot Shots Golf 2 one and no others. For some reason, after I converted Tombi to eboot, it worked but then froze on the very first thing (in this case, selecting a language). It didnt work again after that. so the only one that works is hot shots golf 2. It must be the way im making the eboots but ive followed the instructions exactly. any suggestions?

hey man, just wondering.. is 3.10 OE-A a better option for me (a 1.5 user) than 3.03 OE-C? I'm about to upgrade today, and I need to know ASAP.

Awesome guide btw.
