Hmmm. Sound like your Asian PS3 is not really HK PS2. Could be Singaporan or Malaysia or Taiwan or even CHina. You mentioned that you ordered it online from some asian website?

If you have a chance - could you check your PS3 serial number, to see if it is really HK, or not.

From what I gather out there, HK PS3 should be able to play UK Blu-ray movies despite of different Blu-ray movies.

I recall that HK is very loose on the region restriction comparing to singapore or Malaysia.

aaagghh, decision, decision over which PS3 to buy! I wish someone to come up with a code to unlock this issue of playing PAL PS2 games on PS3 as soon as possible! >_<

HK ps3...

you can play all region blueray games
you can only watch hk region movies (incl US)

this means ur ps2 games (from the UK) will not work on the ps3

and the updates havent changed this!!

Nice thread, out of curiosity though, I read that some people go online with the PS3 and have to update it somewhat, and even games have firmware updates on it.

Was just wondering whether there is a difference between UK firmware updates, HK firmware updates and JP firmware updates (so forth)?

Cause I'm kinda worried whether it will corrupt the PS3 or whatever since it'll be a HK PS3 downloading the UK PS3 firmware update (if I was updating through the game etc).

I'm going to HK this year and I have plans in purchasing one^^
