I have an NTSC PS3 which is currently locked at Region 3 for DVDs and running the latest 1.60 firmware.
I inserted an original UK PAL Region 2 DVD - Alien staring Sigourney Weaver. My PS3 gives me the error messages ?Incorrect Region??
I downloaded an application called CloneDVD4 which not only makes a 1:1 copy but also removes any region coding automatically. Handy!
I then burned the film to a standard DVD-R and it works perfectly on my PS3 I don?t know if this works the other way round (playing NTSC DVDs on PAL PS3s). Maybe someone can try this? For NTSC PS3 owners it?s good news, as it means the console is locked by firmware and that there isn?t a hardware limitation. It also means PS3 has no problems reading legal copies of DVD films (and more than likely Blu-ray films

I think most people relise this but i think most people on this thread just want to get a legal copy uk ps2 game to play on an imported usa/HK ps3.
When you start talking of making backups it becomes more involved than a lot of people want. i'm sure datel will kick something out eventually to unlock the regions, because i dont like the thought of chipping my console as i am not into copied games, but on the same subject i hate region locking.
It,s catch 22 i suppose, but copies/backup games are not the answer as far as i am concerned.
good news, i received the Marvel Ultimate Alliance from Play.com on Sat. and it works, THANK GOD FOR THAT. it has Region 2 logo on the back of the case. the two games i bought from Hong Kong were Region 3. i also had a look at the back of the Blu-ray movie i brought along to HK which has Region 2 is stated. however i just got the new James Bond's Casio Royale which has ALL REGION at the back of the case. they both working on my PS3.
i am the same, i wish someone can crack the region code soon to unlock the PS3 then we all can play PS2's games.yeah me too i dont know how to play ps2 games n even dvds plz help me take care

I purchased a USA PS3 months ago and have been very happy with it so far, DVD's i watch on my DAD player and i dont own any PS2 games so it's ok for that, I just brought a load of Blu ray movies and 3 of them dont work!!! they are all made by fox and it comes up with a FOX screen saying to put the disc in a region B player! I'm very frustrated because the movie is Die hard 4.0!
Does anyone know if there is a way to remove this limitation? or cheat the firmware on the PS3 to think it's in Europe?
I'm imagaining that it's a limitation with the Disc, i.e the Disc itself is locked and it's not a PS3 problem!
