Another important thing that hasn't been discussed in this thread is the resolution. Most plasmas have a 1024*768 resolution, which means that it won't be able to display every detail of a 720p resolution which is 1280*720. According to cnet, the difference is subtle, but still, you can't help but think that you're not getting every little detail of your game screen. Only the newest plasmas have a resolution capable of displaying a full 720p resolution. I have a Samsung lcd fyi!
Is 768p not a higher resolution than 720p? I mean I know that if you input a 720p source that it will hace to upconvert it to 768p and that will slightly hurt the picture quality but I haven't seen very many (if any) 720p LCD TVs.

With regards to the 720p issue the D9700 display is 1080i (1920 X 1080) which is some what better than the 720p you quote. I have this set and done some research before purchasing. With regards to the burn out issue, as long as you keep your gaming to short periods in the first month of its life e.g. 1hour session at a time then watch some TV in full screen mode your be fine. The Tv also has a number of setting which help to reduce the chances of burn in. Hope this helps but if you require any further information please ask.
