This whole thing has left such a bad taste in my mouth, I can't even describe. The forum that hosted the discussion of RipIt4Me has apparently been so intimidated by the forces that be, that discussion on the subject is not even allowed. Any posts about it (just like this thread here) will be closed or deleted. I can't imagine someone having that much power or can put on that much pressure to get people to buckle to their demands like that. Very scary and very unscrupulous. Because of money, entities can't or don't have the guts to stand up to these special interest groups and challenge these bastards. Notice how hush hush this whole thing is? Something very telling in this. They (and by "they", I suspect it's Macrovision) don't want to go public with their actions, they use their power to intimidate and silence the critics. I wonder how many other forums are going to end up quashing any further discussion on this matter because they're afraid of repercussions. I also don't understand the thinking process of pulling discussion of RipIt4Me but leaving DVD Decrypter intact. Can talk about one but not the other. Makes no sense to me and it can't even be discussed to try to make sense out of it. Everyone is apparently expected to just erase RipIt4Me from the brain and pretend it never existed.

Reflect on the 321 case as precedent in the US courts. Software intended for bypassing digital copy protection is illegal. How far the legal system is going to pursue the situation is still developing. Thinking anything being transported over the net is safe because it came from a foreign server is being naive. Those purchases of Slysoft and DVDIdle software aren't going unnoticed either. Also, don't think all those downloads and updates can't be tracked once a source is determined.

Without taking sides and going into a rant, the problem for the individual is that government sided with big business. When it comes to individual rights and their wallets, most politicians think with their wallet.

DD Forum said they were going to post something today about RipIt4Me but so far, nothing. I guess mum is still the word.

Well I just tried again over at DD, asking if there was any new info (that they said they were going to post today), and basically got a "no comment" and thread was closed.

This great program has gone from a "greatest thing since sliced bread" to a taboo "we will not speak of it and will not allow anyone else to speak of it" in a matter of a couple of days. This program deserved better treatment than this and the people who supported it deserve better treatment than to be told, "just shudupanforgedaboutit".

I was worried when the court announced the 321 decision. How far will enforcement of current laws go?

The feds are fueled by the entertainment industry and those pockets are deep because we keep filling them with our money. Restrictive laws were put in place before most citizens even knew a battle was taking place. Most of the public aren't aware or not paying attention to digital copyright protection issues. A small battle was put up by 321, but everything has gone in favor of big business. Seems the towel was thrown in before there was ever a fight. Government has arbitrarily taken away freedoms without consulting the citizens. The public was either blind to the issues or didn't care. I can see laws protecting copyright, but the current situation has gone past protecting those rights to the point of infringing on individual rights of "fair use".

@MikeO89

hey mike. i saw your opening thread yesterday on DD and went back late in the day to see if there were any reponses and saw that the thread had been removed, as far as i could tell. not closed, but removed. this has such an air of "big brother" to it. something has "disappeared"... and now apparently all mention of the "disappeared" is forbidden in some places. weird. or maybe scary. i have to admit i'm curious as to exactly who used what force to leverage ripit4me out of existence, and what leverage they are using to keep people in some places from even talking about it (so far). i wonder if some "investigative-type" reporter somewhere will get on this and provide some kind of story for us?

Things depend on how much the home countries for Slysoft and DVDIdle want to play footsies with the countries that signed the new copyright accords. So far they've been safe, but it's all politics hinging a lot on trade agreements. If things shift, it will not be in our favor.

Well maybe when we invade China or Antiguia, but until then the USA has no say in what goes on there. Ripit4me was in the USA.

Haven't you heard of trade agreements and diplomatic leverage. Countries can be influenced without the threat of war.
