There are more than enough threads that explain this. Please do some research and reading on your own as the answers are there.

In plain english this is how it is...
Right now (to the best of my knowlege) You can dump/rip ps3 games to a hard drive (internal or external) from the ps3 using SAK or Linux.
as far as playing them forget it. Its not going to happenen. There is no working ISO loader out there, oh, there is talk, and there are rumors, but there is no loader. So do your self a favor and and even bother ripping the games until the loader is out unless you like sitting on gigs and gigs of useless data.
my girlfriend still thinks i'm a nerd, but at least i have my ps3 now.

Not only that, but really I like being able to back a game up and also play my emulators... but I dont feel its the same, like it was with PS2.. 1st because of the size of games now........ Even though you can back up on HDD, whats the point, The bigger they get the more space you'll need... your better off just buying the damn game....Or do like I do... Gamefly.... Rent it...Like it... buy it at a discount... Or report a shipping error... I'm not tring to condone theft or anything, but I have been a member of Gamefly for while... Ive had several games I thought I sent back, but misplaced them, then I report a shipping error, and they take it off my record, same with games I thought I didnt receive and I really did and then they send another copy... Ive had it happen with PS2 and PS3 games... Anyway..blah blah... oh yeah my original point wsa hell with the loader for now... I like my online play and getting the full capabilities of the $600 machine I bought..........Ill stick with my PS2 and PSP for all the "back ups" and emulation...

Go ahead and update your ps3 to 1.7, plays games, download demos, fold some protien. When a PS3 loader comes out i'm 99% certian it will come out with a firmware "downgrader", or it wont need one

Well, when you (try) to connect to the internet it will say "new update required" ect ect
Or go to system, update.

If you want to upgrade go here and read http://www.us.playstation.com/ps3/networ...1304&LINK=PS3SU .You can upgrade via online,Storage media (Memory Stick?, SD Memory Card, CompactFlash®)* or a USB Mass Storage device such as a USB flash drive. You can also upgrade by using a game that contains the firmware upgrade.
