robpardee,

try this and see if it helps

use this Nero clean tool to remove Nero 6 (dont forget to write down your serial #)
http://www.nero.com/nero6/eng/Nero_6_CleanTool.html

then after you reboot the PC

Use that registry cleaner provided by Car.Mike and then install Nero again and burn to see if that helps

As there's been a lot of input into this one since my post I accept that there is not a hard drive issue and agree that it could well be the burner. If the burner is not coming up to speed that would be an issue. Nero provide a speedtester as an aid. Try that. I have used it in the past to diagnose a failing drive.

Now that we have the problem isolated you're getting an abundance of help. Car.Mike knows his way around a PC, so you can listen to his advice. I agree, try the external burner on another PC. Be sure to use the same USB cable you're connecting to your PC with. That's part of the variable. As Car.Mike mentioned, cables are less expensive than drives and they can develop problems as well.

The situation with the drive:
Quote:
when I put in the DVD it took me ejecting it and putting it back in and re-reading the disc to play it but it did play it.

It may be an indicator something is happening with DVD support on your drive. Your testing the drive on another PC should tell Car.Mike what he needs to know to continue on. If the drive happens to have trouble, try a new USB cable if you have one (as Car.Mike mentioned). If you have access to another external burner (known to still be burning good), that would be the ideal way to test your system to eliminate the drive as a variable.

I hate leaving curious, so maybe you'll take a few minutes to tell me. We've not discussed the PC you're using. We've only discussed it's limited resources. We know you have enough hard drive space, because you created the ISO image. A system needs some free hard drive space to function properly. So, with the ISO on the hard drive, how much space does that leave? Enough is not an answer. Am I right in assuming your PC is a laptop, what brand and model PC is this, and what processor does it use?

Too many helpers get in the way unless they have a definite fix in hand. Car.Mike and the others are capable of finishing the diagnosis process now. Good luck.

Ok, I'm shocked at how many replied I'm getting but I'll try to answer all questions now.
My Computer- Dell Inspiron 1000 Laptop, Celeron processor 2.0GHz, 512 RAM and after the ISO is created with shrink I have 8 GB left.
Nero-Someone told me to uninstall Nero and reinstall it as the trial version so the trial version is all that I have on my computer and I don't know if that has the Drive tester on it. Also I did use the Nero clean up tool after I uninstalled it a few days ago and it didnt help anything.
Burner- I am about to test the burner on another computer and see what happens and I do have another USB cable to try if it fails. However I do not have access to another DVD burner at this time to hook up to my computer.
Thanks!!

Did you use a registry cleaner after the clean tool?

i have ran nero's clean tool in the past and then ran ccleaner and found a whole bunch of Nero still left.

when you test your burner on another PC and if it works you might want to try what i said,
although it could be a bad USB cable or bad drive, like mike and pacman said

Here are my results of the tests:
I tried it on another computer and it didn't work with my original cable so I switched it out for another which worked. I decided to try the cable that worked on the other computer with my computer. It once again froze at the same place. However, both computers it did take a couple times of ejecting and reputting in the DVD-R for the drive to recognize it was in there. Once it did on the other computer it wrote it the disc but once it recognized it on my computer it still froze out. I did use the CCleaner it cleaned out alot of stuff and I restarted my computer just to be sure and thats when I tried the burner on my computer again, and as I said above it didn't work...
I'm not sure what to do, the problem is is that I don't think I still have the reciept and it is not even a year old more like 8 or 9 months old so it shouldn't be acting this way.
Thanks

Since nobody jumped all over you, I'll throw in my speculation. You obviously have a drive problem. Check with HP support to see what verification they need to warranty your drive. If they have to have receipts, then you might check where you purchased the drive. It may or may not be your only problem, but the drive is going to have to be replaced or repaired before you know if that's all or not.

robpardee,
PacMan777 hit the nail on the head. Try and find the receipt if you can. If you bought it on Credit Card all the better as they can look it up for you

Thanks PacMan777 as I have been at an afternoon wedding

You're welcome Car.Mike. Just looking over my messages and caught it; noticed no activity so commented. Didn't take a brain surgeon to figure if it's acting up on different PCs it needs work.

Hope the wedding went well. If the weather was as nice there as here, it was a beautiful day for it. Me, I got to spend the afternoon at the dentist's office. Bummer.

Thanx Car.Mike,
The cleaners both the CC and Nero did the trick thanx. The only problem is I can't find my Nero V6 disk but at least I now know what the problem was, I thought that was what was happening but didn't know how to fix it.
