Hey guys,
I'm kind of a newbie also. I love Shrink, Decrypter, Nero. Been using it for about two years. Done tons of DVDs. But I'm having trouble with Shrink and Decrypter. Every DVD I've tried to burn has stopped about 40-50% thru. Now I get this message not just with newer DVDs but older ones too. Now, decrypter stops in the same place with errors just like shrink.
DVD Shrink encountered on error and cannot continue.
Failed to read file"D:\"
Copy protection error- the read faild because the sector
is encrypted
Any suggestions?

Use DVDFAB Decrypter(free) to rip the DVD to HD first. DVDD has not been updated in a while

Failed to read file"C:\Documents and settings\Owner\My documents\
DVDFab\Fulldisc\....\VTS_01_3.VOB
invalid access to memory location
Now what? It throws it back to an blank DVD Shrink

Yes, FixVTS. It stopped at 41% again. There are no scratches, no marks or finger prints and it stops at that percentage on every dvd I've tried. both in shrink and decrypter. DVDFab ripped it. but shrink keeps stopping in the same place. I've uninstalled and reinstalled and even redown loaded the latest version. No change.

I'm trying what was suggested in a previous thread:
"It has been my personal experience and observation that
these errors are the result of multipal Keys: codes--
Shrink cannot crack them in multipals. Use DVD Decrypter
-- but first go to tools; settings;click I/O Tab and
check the IGNORE READ ERRORS . Now Decrypt to a folder
on your HD --Now you can process the iso using Shrink
to a 2nd folder without any errors as it is no longer
encrypted--Open Shrink go to File and open disc image
and instead of taking it from the original Disc you are
doing it from your own HD. You can even create dvd files
and even view it with Power DVD 5.0 --So dont forget to
select the ISO for burning back to Disc using the DVD
Decrypter . You might have to try a few times but you
will figure it out I guarantee it --another note to keep
in mind all discs do not always come off exactly the
same, so dont just try this method automaticly --Use
Shrink first. Also when using AnyDVD select Region 7
(Undesignated)"
But so far it won't go past VTS_01_4.VOB-it's at29 read errors and 681 retries. Still going.

It is a bad mastering press. You need to exchange it for another copy

Get in the habit of doing a read test scan of DVDs that hang up in the decryption process or stop at the same place on more than one backup attempt. Bad sectors that show up on the scan are the cause of such problems. It's a handy diagnosis process that many people appear reluctant to do.
Click Here for the freeware you need to do the most difficult DVDs. The pack includes the Shrink update for ImgBurn and decryption software along with a guide and handy links.

You were right that particular one was a bad copy. It worked on every one's hero. But I tried decrypting to the hd from dvdfab decrypter and dvdfab hd decrypter. It burns the hd but DVD Shrink won't load the video. It will open the folders it's located in and then says it can't find the secified files. Even when doing regular dvd decrypt it won't read the files burned to the hd. I've looked in other forums to see if some one else has had the problem but I didn't see any. Am I over looking one? What can I do so that DVD Shrink can read the files?
Thanks, Missionary

misionary,
If you have ripped the DVD to the HD using DVDFAB Decrypter and then used FixVTS as suggested by 300bowler then you have a bad mastering press or you did not rip all of the files to the HD. If it is a bad mastering press or it has bad scratches then you need to either clean it or exchange it for another.

I did. I tried it with about 20 different movies. I even tried it with ones that I shrank straight from the Dvd. When I burned it to the hd, it would open the folder and say files not found. If it's not burning all of the files to the hd, how can I verify that is what its doing and how do I fix it?

Did you use the guides and do exactly like the guides said to do. Thay are under 300bowler's 1st post. The only other cause of this could be the DVD-Rom is going bad

Yes, I've done it exactly like the guides. My hd crashed less than a month ago, so the computer got an over haul, my dvd-rom is practicly brand new. I've been able to burn several dvds on it even in the last few days. But I have never been able to open any thing off the hd in DVD Shrink. I even up graded to 3.2.0.15.thinking maybe just out dated version, and still it won't open them. I've ripped with every thing out there, done it step by step with the guides. I can shrink from the DVD it self but not the hd.

First off you're confusing me with your terminology. A DVD ROM reads only. A burner reads and writes. You can read from either for the source you want to process. I'm not being picky because wihout a log of your hardware and models you lose me and I've been around the block once or twice.
Quote: But I tried decrypting to the hd from dvdfab decrypter and dvdfab hd decrypter.
What did you mean by DVDFab Decrypter and DVDFab HD Decrypter? I thought there was only one and I've seen no DVDFab HD Decrypter.
You ask how you know if you got the content ripped to your HDD. Browse to the ripped folder wiht Windows Explorer and check the file size and content. It sounds as though you're ripping in one mode and trying to open in in Shrink using another. There's also the possibility you're not getting the files properly processed for compliance and Shrink won't do the analysis to open the files. In one situation you're trying to open a file format that the browser isn't looking for. In that case it appears to have disappeared. In the case of the inadequate processing Shrink tries to open the files but can't. Unless your system is totally FUBAR, DVDFab dercypter will rip and give you either a DVD folder with Video_TS or rip and construct an ISO image for you, if the program indicates it's finished the task. In that case you use either Open Files or Open Disc Image (under Files on toolbar). Open Disc is only for DVDs in a physical drive or ISOs mounted in a virtual drive (which isn't needed with Shrink). With new releases you don't want anything in ISO till you go to do the final processing for burn. The files need to be available for editing and processing and putting files in an ISO blocks them from FixVTS and VobBlanker. When you rip a DVD to the HDD you should be able to use Windows Explorer to browse the folder and open the files with your DVD player software. If in ISO it would need to be mounted in a virtual drive to be viewed, but it would still be viewable. You can check your files that way. The ripped files should be near the original in size when ripped in Full DVD and the viewable and audio content should be present. Unless something is really strange, when DVDFab Decrypter finishes a rip, it's on the HDD till you delete it. As for Shrink, it will at least try to analyze a ripped file when the right format is selected for the ripped files. It recognizes Discs, Disc Images (ISO), and Files; and will at least try to analyze. If it's not doing so, I suspect user error more than the program; especially if DVD Shrink is still "shrinking" from some DVDs.
