To change the COM port number assigned to a USB to RS-232 Serial Adapter follow the steps below:
1. Open the Windows Device Manager.
2. Right click on the COM port you want to change.
3. Left click on Properties.
4. Click on the Port Settings tab.
5. Click on the Advanced... button.
6. Use the drop down list to select the COM port number you want to use.
7. Click OK.
8. Click on OK again and close Device Manager.
are using a usb adaptor
you may not have the right com port selected
i had only choice of two, cos i do have two proper com ports on the pc, one is for the monitor - they look like 9 pins that the null cable plugs into, make sure it is in properly and the screws tightened
Now if you are not using this, but a usb, you need to assign a com port as above

There are no fake Replay Lite boxes so far. All replay lite boxes will take the software.
Comm port error normally occurs when the box is busy trying to search for codes with the auto update on. The best solution for this is to exit STBlink, put the box on standby, open STBlink and try again.
If the box is stuck on "Red", you need to ignore the error message and go ahead and install the software even though it looks like a connection has not been made.

also, make sure you attach the null modem to replay and pc first and then power on. DONT put the replay on, that is - green light, leave off - that is with red light ;)
Thats what happened here
make sure the lead is properly in, and screw in the other screws each time ;)
thats all i can think of
my stb link showed 2 com ports, as that is what i have and it wasnt com 1 - so tried com 2 and it was that
could your com port possible be faulty? can u swap over and try your monitor in the other one? assuming your monitor is on one?
just trying to think of all possibllities

I got last Null Modem connector in Galway. Cost me only ?10. I have downloaded software and updated Replay Lite - only took 20 minutes. Works perfectly only had to rename favorites. Remember to change time settings to Summer time on and adjust picture format to 16:9 if you have widescreen TV. Hope I don't have to come on forum again for a long time. Many thanks to all those who helped beat the system

i didnt touch that
doesnt make a difference
you need to save your channels and favs first, as described - THEN TURN OFF THE REPLAY, that is OFF BY POWER - no power to the unit
then power back on . leave on red standby and click on update software, put the first lot in
then turn power off again etc etc
will copy the guide again here
it definitely works
----------------------------------------------------------------
Please note that when you flash the box with this you will have to do a full rescan, so backup your channels and Fav?s to your PC. (Dont need a full rescan, cos with backing up your channels, when both flashes done, put that back on and all your channels are there ;) )
To backup your saved channels and favourites.
Connect the null modem lead to your PC and box and power up the box.
Open up the stb link.
Setup Comm.
Click Read User Data
The file will be called Factory_Data.txt
There will be 64 blocks to download from the box.
Save it to your desktop and rename it what you want.
_____________________________________________
If at a later date you do a full rescan and find nothing,
You can reload the file you have saved on your desktop.
But when you have established a connection with the stb link
Click Write Factory Data and get the saved file from your desktop.
There will be 64 blocks to upload.
Make sure as always to wait for the rapidly flashing light.
________________________________________________________________
Download these files to your desktop.
Stblink
http://www.speedyshare.com/153660675.html
742a
http://www.speedyshare.com/625287176.html
Replay Lite 910
http://www.speedyshare.com/401966274.html
Connect the null modem lead to the box and your PC.
Open up the Stblink
Untick ?Maintain User Data?
Select upgrade software
Get the 742a file from your PC.
>From when you see the blocks start to transfer.
It takes 4 mins for the box to be updated.
But make sure you see the led flashing much more quickly than it did when the blocks were transferring. If you leave for even 5 mins it will be OK.
Wait until all the blocks are transferred and WAIT a couple of more minutes for the led to flash much more rapidly than it did when you could visibly see when the blocks were transferring.
Unplug everything and only connect the power lead.
Wait for the led to flash red/green and then stay on green.
Then connect SCART and TV cables. (didnt bother with this bit til you have flashed with the 910 software - this is only mentioned if you need to just put software on once )
You might have to unplug the box again and then power it up for a second time.
When the files are being transferred from your PC to the box, the led on the box will be flashing at this speed << slow flash
Don't unplug the box until until you see it flashing at this speed
<< rapid flash
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Then do the above with the Replay Lite 910 file
How to Check & Change your COM Port number in XP
Assuming you are using XP?
Do the following.
START
Right Click "MY COMPUTER"
Choose "MANAGE"
In the resulting window, click on "DEVICE MANAGER"
In the right hand pane, click on the little plus sign beside "PORTS" in the right hand pane.
Right click on the USB Adapter (Should be something like "Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port (COM#)
Choose "Properties"
Click on "PORT SETTINGS" TAB
Click on "ADVANCED"
Then you will see the COM Port Number Box. You should be able to change it there using the drop down box.
Try to set it to COM2
Restart Windows
Set STBLink to COM2 & try to connect.
If that fails try another port number.
Hi
Was on this afternoon trying to work this all out and reading the forum.
Im based in manchester and i have flashed my box once before and it worked great.
Channels have only started scrambling the last week or so and needing codes, is it worth me trying to flash again with the new files or will they settle down on the code changes?????
They sure know how to annoy people when all the sport is on!!!!
hi all
first time user,so please excuse ignorance.
when i put the codes in this evening the channels came back on but they are very jumpy........almost like avery bad signal, any ideas??
i have just bought a laptop with only usb connections so is the zp43w lead from maplins the right one to get to get new software, i presume this is what you have been discussing in the previous pages( new software that will automatically update when those who must be disobeyed(n**) change the codes)
thanks
DAMN THE BEGRUDGERS!!!
