Thats the way it should have been from day one. Modchips were tried and tested from the old Sega Saturn days. Now you people see what softmods get you. The thing is good chip is only $40 and $70 if you get someone else to solder it, people in an attempt to save a measely $40 loses the entire system. Irony

MS28 with Xtreme 5.3a and NOT banned. Somehow, considering that I've played every single 360 game backup ON live.

same here. not sure but i have heard that MS28's are getting banned because they are the ones that are actually stealth patched fully (or as close to fully as possible)

same here no ban ms28 xtreme 53, so stop making fun of softmods since you can't do them! The most you can do for the people who got banned is have sympathy for them instead of saying you made a mistake and it should have always been chips! AND I can solder and do both (softmod)! since you went with chip don't think ur so big because you still can't play backups on live like i can so far!!

My theory is this. Since xtreme 4, the firmware has been based on the MS28 core. You had to spoof your MS25 drive to report back to the console that it was indeed a MS25, or you got the E66 error from the fall update. Since the xtreme 4+ firmware was based on MS28 core, it's STILL original to the MS28.
Maybe that explains why MS28 hasn't been banned but every other drive has. Anyone with a 0078Fk been banned yet, and if so, with which firmware?
Also my theory on why non modded consoles are getting banned.
Say I mod my 360, get the 3RLOD and send it back to microsoft. You, on the other hand, never mod your 360 and it also 3rlod. You send yours back to be repaired and get MINE in return. The naive person who doesn't know of softmod firmware hacks wouldn't KNOW he had a refurbished modded console and there ya go. BANNED.

I actually called 1-800-4my-xbox today and simply asked them "Why am I NOT banned"
After 10 minutes or so on hold, a guy got on the phone with me and explained I wasn't banned because they haven't detected me running a modded console. My live account had recently been suspended due to a credit card error but I fixed that yesterday.
I think that MS28 drives with xtreme 5.3 probably won't be banned for a while. Neither will the 0079FK drives. You can mod a 0079Fk like you used to have to do the 0078 and I don't even think Microsoft cares unless it becomes widespread.
I SEE ALL drives being banned eventually. I hope not though, I'd miss Live but hell, it happens. We can't cry over spilled milk anyway. We all knew the banhammer was coming. I got concerned when the crackdown Halo3 beta didn't work and they had to issue a patch. I even told everyone I know that mods 360's last week to watch out for the Beta ban hammer. Damn it sucks to be right.

Well, I figured this could happen, so I never applied the spring update...does that mean my box is safe? I can reflash it to the original firmware and play my originals on live without a problem?

You can't play on live without the spring update.
And they knew of the modded consoles BEFORE the spring update.

So I'll probably need a different console entirely to play originals on, one that's never been modded.
That's fine, I pretty much only play Halo 2 online anyway, so I'll keep using backups and then just make sure I only use the originals on live on a different console...time to start saving....

If you have a MS28, you seem to be ok... right now.

ROFL! you got my respect.
there's an interesting thread going at x-s, people report exactly what kind of drive they own and how/when they updated their firmware:
http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=603752
so far there's only one MS28 reported being banned (in that thread that is), but they are mostly MS25 and Hitachi drives.

yeah i just call now and told a guy that i cannot connect to live. i had to give him my accounts info and tag. he told me to disconnect my modem and do the refresh cycle for 2 minz. then i did that and it still didnt work.(in my head i new live wouldnt just turn on cuz my 360 is modded). so then hes like alrite well do it again and wait for 12 minz and if the same problem happens call back. i didnt call back yet prob a waste of time.

sorry to hear that ps2. i have never pluged in the cat5 from day 1, and ill keep it that way untill hardware switch. i guess this is a very good opportunity to open market for 360 modding where it was being dominated by C4E's FW before. i guess thats one +.
and so yeah nothing is stealth, MS can see everything, even your bed.

PS2Menance have you been using just backups or retail and backups today? I've heard a theory that going from one to the other sends a red flag to MS.

It's a maybe, but we'll have to hear more reports to see. If that's the case then I know I'll be buying a new 360 and flashing and playing only burned games on it. I'll probably give my banned 360 to my nephew if we are that lucky.
