I also post on that site, and basicly yes Jlhfit is correct, and currently there is no benifit to downgrading because there is no ISO loader so this is useless to 90% of ps3 owners, unless you are currently coding an ISO loader this really doesnt help anyone :)
my girlfriend still thinks i'm a nerd, but at least i have my ps3 now.

Well these is some good new to this.
And that is if you can downloaf from 1.6 to 1.5 soon they will have software to downgrade from 1.7 and 1.8
So it mean you may as well update as you will be able to downgrade.

Everyone is paranoid about upgrading because they believe that there will be an ISO loader for the PS3 and it will only work in an older version of OS. I don?t care for such things at the moment and will buy another PS3 to mod if something good comes of it. At the moment I like to upgrade and play games without worrying.

Here's an idea, why don't you keep your opinions to your self. I buy all my games, I have 12 PS3 games I bought with real money ... OOO shocking to you I am sure. Not everyone here is a pirate. I like to mod things to run home brew software, like emulators for other systems such as NES (they don't make games for the NES any more DUH). I also like to tinker and hack with things, I'm an electronics engineer its what I like to do. Some people are not honest and they copy rented games, perhaps they are not rich like you and cant afford to buy games, but they see people like you having fun with all your money and all they want is to have fun too. Perhaps you should live in someone else's shoes before you start to criticize why people do the things they do. Stop being narrow minded and get with the program, your not helping!
P.S. Now don't you feel salty LOL!

I only upgrade b/c I feel that when and if an ISO Loader is released it will eventually work on the current firmwares... Right now I dont really care about burning games on the PS3.. for a few reasons...
1st think about it... It will be almost as expensive to be able to use the "iso loader" as will be to just buy the games..Why? Well, you need hdd space.. say average 15g x 10 games = 150g.. or blueray burner and br disc = double and triple digits... until there is a way to compress Blue rays to Dvd or some other manner, then Ill buy those for now.. Also if your not lucky like me and work for a company that has hundreds of DVR's laying around that you can jack the unused 160g HDD's out of them, then you have to buy them, which can become expensive...... Plus I already have 300 plus ps2 backups, emulators,etc... Ill stick to the ps2 for console backups and emulation....
I bought the PS3 without even thought of playing backups..not really,I did think about it but I was more interested in the machine itself.. In my opinion the updates and "future" updates, to me out weigh the backup theories... Regardless of playing backups, a console that can browse the net, run other OS, share Media, play games, download playable games, and other sh*t is really not bad for the price... Buy a computer of the same abilities and tell me what you will pay.....
Anyway Im not hear to take anyone side and you can call me whatever you want.. this is just my opinion....

Oh last thing... everyone here that comes to bash the hell outta PS3, go to the XBox forum to do that... I have never owned an Xbox and never plan on it... Its bad enough that I have 2 computers with Microsoft Windows on it....

I would think that "mama's boys" would be the wimps who can't be honest and who HAVE to look for quicker and easier ways in life to obtain things because they're too soft to do it the hard way. The point of the thread is downgrading firmwares,which you won't need.The fact is as long as Sony keeps the otheros option for the hypervisor we will always have a way to hack it.I started messing with the otheros demo released awhile ago,and it makes sense.It is a binary file in a gzipped archive.If you wanted to work on something you could get a GNU compiler,such as cygwin and start programming for it.Just giving you all a little insight on what you should be looking for.
