ok it reads 60 gigs on the hard drive, about the time its install in the ps3 , formated and all that it shows as having 47/55gigs, im thinkin 5 gigs for the os which is aceptlabe but where the other 8 gigs go??? i cant imagine the ps3 usin 13 gigs for system use alone when my 360 uses only 7gigs

can any one explain this for me plz

a 60gb hdd is only 55.8 gigs in reality. The other 8 gigs is prolly the xmb, only a gig more than the 360 os

from my experience, companies do this alot. for example, i have an external hard drive which says "120 GB" but there is only 111.9gb but then i looked on thie information, and it said 120151710105 bytes and probably judjung from the first three numbers they must have wrote 120gb, so ive learned to expect this from bi corporate companies :)

Are we all new to computers? The advertised disk size is never what you actually receive. Blank DVDs, for example, sometimes advertise 4.7 gigs when it's really 4.3, etc., etc.

When I upgraded my PS3 20 to 120 gigs, I also got the final size at 111 and change. It's nothing new.

do the math- 60 billion bytes / 1024^3 = 55.88 gb which rounds to 56 gb

im not new to computers but this really has never happened to me b4 while all this years i had my computer i always get 1 gig less than adverticed and 3 to 4gigs for the os and the rest is mine to use unless my cp has been reporting the the wrong hd space all this time .. but any ways all this is really not a bigie

Don't feel bad I got a 160GB in my PS3 and it said there was only ~120GB free! Yea I got an extra 10GB for the extra 40GB of so called free space. I still use an external HD for my movies, I got the large internal to download demos and playable stuff.
