Ok... I've read through this whole thread and think I've got a basic understanding about how Wiis get bricked now.

So, with the introduction of the new 3.0 firmware, does that mean that if we have updated to 3.0, we can technically 'safely' play older games (ie released before Aug 7, 2007) from other regions? (Of course, being paranoid I'd brickblock the iso first, but this is just for theoretical discussion...)

fr0zens0, the function of wii brickblocker is to do away with the update file thus the game won't ask you for an update, so you won't brick the wii. for wii regionfrii, i believe it is used to convert game of a particular region to that compatible of the wii firmware. eg. if you have a ntsc-u firmware, you can use this program to convert a pal game to ntsc-u. however, not all games are possible for conversion using this program

I got my Jap Wii Semi Bricked (with BBA NTSC/U) before I got the chance to read this thread but at the moment it's not to bad because I can still play the games that I like from the Jap region.

One of my questions is, apart from accessing the settings what else can't you do with a Semi Bricked Wii? Channels and stuff is no big deal to me.

Thanks

Okay, I haven't used the brickblocker program before. But I know that it is used on NTSC/PAL games to remove the force update for the main purpose of making it playable on Wii's off the other region. However, from the latest update, 3.0U, Nintendo warns off a potential brick in the future. And I don't want to risk the possibility of bricking my wii due to a future update; though the chances are supposedly slim.

Basically, what I want to know is, will using an NTSC-U force updating game with brickblocker abolish the update when playing on an NTSC-U wii?

I can't test this out myself because I currently don't own a wii. But very soon will and just wanted to make sure I won't brick it through a future update of Nintendo's.

@CmanD

All Wii Brick Blocker does is change a string on the game disc that disables the update. You can use it on any game disc that you backup for your Wii system. Which means if you run Wii brick Blocker on all ISO backups that you will not be prompted to do an update.

@evenja

3.0 just came out a few days ago so I doubt any of the more resent Game Disc that have been released have the 3.0 firmware on it. You might have to wait a few weeks before the Game Disc actually trickle down with the 3.0 Firmware on it.

Is there any chance that a semi-bricked Wii could be completely bricked after using a compatibility game from this list?

I semi-bricked my Wii yesterday after inserting Mario Strikers Charged Football into my 2.0J Wii (what sucks is that it auto updates the firmware (I didn't know at that time) without any suggestions of Continue or Cancel :( and all messages that showed up was in Japanese)

Just wondering, would a game that doesn't force an update still work after it is patched with the brick blocker and burned onto a dvd to be played?

am i 100% safe from bricking as long as i remove the update with wii brick blocker 1.3??

Well now a new problem has appeared...

Wii brick blocker makes some (at least one for now...) games unplayable...

Boogie has a 3.0 update on it (for the microphone I guess...) and if you apply Wii brick blocker then it doesn't play...

Here are te details :

Playing original US Boogie on a 3.0J : updates but works fine after with no brick
Playing US Boogie after applying Wii brick blocker : black screen

So yes Wii brick blocker makes games 100% safe but sometimes unplayable...

More info on Boogie and Wii brick blocker...

It seems that this update might not be a 3.0 firmware but only adding microphone support...

Anyway, if you apply wii brick blocker on it it will not launch after this... So the problem is still the same, some games can't be "Wiibrickblocked"...

So Boogie USA has a 3.0 firmware on it, but when you apply it on a NTSCJ console, it did not brick?

The update on Boogie seems to be for the microphone support and maybe not a 3.0U as people that applied it on a 2.2U seem to still be 2.2U after... but still yes, it does not brick a 3.0J console, but WILL BRICK a 2.2J

My Wii is 3.0J. I inserted a DVD, which requested for update. I updated. It still shows 3.0J (afterall, what can be more current than 3.0J).

BUT, now my Wii has 2 news and weather channels. How do I remove the extra channels?

Thanks!

@mmmmm8

You can't get rid of the extra news/weather channel. You can only move them. Go to the duplicated channel and press B+A (press B first then press A keeping them both down) now drag the channel to the right where the arrow is and it will move it to a different page taking it off the first channel screen.

I would suggest reading the guide over. I already explained this information. Next time use Wii brick Blocker on the out of region game disc to disable the update.

Can I use WiiBrickBlocker to remove updates on an official game disc, so that I can safely put the said official disc in my Wii to play, or will I be forced to make a backup copy without the update and play that? Cheers.

@ panipal

you will have to make a backup and reburn the game onto a new dvd disc before the update is removed
