Wii brick blocker has nothing to do with the drive you use to burn. It does just patch an ISO file on your hard drive, from there you burn it with any DVD burner you want.

Hi all, this is my first post and yes I am a noob here. I would like to ask a question that you all might call it stupid and that I should bang my head to the wall.

I have a Wii(US) with a wiikey and I guess I semi-bricked it a while ago with Big Brain Academy, which is also NTSC (US) game (CMIIW). Now I lost the wii setting and it appears as a failed opera browser.

My question is, is that possible? I have read the thread from the first page and from what I have known, semi bricked wii only happens when you update the wii with a game disk other than your wii region containing an update software.

My wii is US and the BBA game is also US version. Now I am very confused. Please help me if you guys kind enough to give an answer. And for the rest who prefer to bang my already s#*@ed up head, I can only say that I'm sorry. But it's true, I have read all the post and searched the answer here and from other forum as well, but don't find the answer yet.

@stupnoob : BBA is known to fix the bricked US Wii not to brick them. Two explanations for your problem :

Your Wii is not NTSC-U and you bricked it with BBA

Or

Your Wii is NTSC-U and you bricked it with another game but in this case you should have unbricked it ith an update from BBA unless you updated in the mean time and then rebricked your Wii with another game...

All that is confusing...

Were you able to play BBA ? And from what you write you have a semibricked wii, if my memory is good, BBA is supposed to lead to a full brick, no ?

Make sure and tell us : what version of Wii (U, E or J) , what firmware (2.2, 3.0...?) what games did you play that are known to brick (pokemon, paper mario, mario strikers, etc)

Just so I can try to help a little more in understanding...

thank you for the kind answer.
Actually I've just bought my wii two weeks ago and I must says that I'm very stupid for not knowing the firmware. But I'm sure it's US.

Other than BBA, I also played Zelda, Mario Party 8, Donkey Kong Taru Jet (I'm suspicious bout this game also), Wario Ware Smooth Moves, Wii Sport, wii play, Sims 2 Pets, Blazing Angels, COD 3, Red Steel, Rayman, Ratatouille and Cooking Mama.

Mario Party 8 has an update and is known to brick but I don't know too much about the PAL version... DK Taru Jet Race is japanese don't know if it has an update or not but that might be your culprit... If all of your other games are really US and your Wii also is then that's it...

@stupnoob

In order to unbrick a semi-brick Wii you will need to install the correct region firmware from a Game Disc. The firmware must be higher then the firmware that semi-bricked your Wii. So you need to find out what game disc bricked your Wii. It has to be a NTSC(J) or PAL game disc that did it.

If you semi-bricked your NTSC(U) Wii with a 2.2J firmware. Using a 2.2U firmware will not unbrick it. You have to have a higher firmware # then 2.2 to even have a chance to unbrick it. (3.0U is the latest so update with a game disc with 3.0U and you could recover your Wii settings)

Oh, so you'll have to wait for the 3.1 and a game with it (if it comes out one day...), or find a game (I don't know if it will exist anyway...) that updates to 3.0E even if you're in 3.0U... Good luck but I am really not sure this will be solved before long long... if ever...

No, sadly you can't force an update, and from what I have read Metroid Prime does not have a 3.0 firmware but a 2.2 and does not brick the PAL consoles but duplicates the news and weather channels... Not sure though, just things I have read... Maybe you bricked with something else ?

And for PAL users there is a workaround know for playing Metroid Prime 3 with no problems... Google it, as I am not sure this forum would allow this trick as it is borderline on piracy...

@ragnar56

Your confirmation is wrong. Metroid prime 3 does not have a 3.0U firmware.

there have been numerous users that have updated with it and still have the 2.2U firmware.

My Wii is Version 3.0u. Has anyone applied the Boogie update to this version and if so, what was the result?

Seems some people play it on semi-bricked 2.2J with no further consequences than the console staying semi-bricked :-D

Quick and possibly stupid question.
I own an Australian Wii with a WiiKey
Firmware: 3.0E
Recently obtained Mario Strikers NTSC(U)
I am aware that regardless of the firmware version it will prompt an update.
Is it safe to allow the updater to check the firmware version?
This is my first backed up game and I didn't know about Brickblocker until after researching since I was aware that wrong region firmware would (semi) brick consoles. However, I have no spare DVDs to burn on and I want to play soon :(

Thanks in advance.
Hmm it might be a good idea to compile a list of games with known firmware updates and what version...

The results is playing the Boogie and Metroid prime 3 game. There is nothing to worry about if you have 3.0U firmware and both titles are the NTSC(U) games.
