Ok, I have a premium 360, and it has a hitachi drive inside it(can tell from the tray), however I had a core that was manufactured on 2006-09-16, which has a hitachi 0079fk rom, which is unflashable, my premium is still inder warranty, 5 months to go, I would just like to know if anyone has come across a manufactured on 2006-07-03 that does not have a hitachi 0079fk drive, I dont want to open this 360 for no reason. Thanks in advance.

My son has one manufactured 7-14-06 and it's a 0059DJ drive.
Also, use a blowdryer and some tweezers to remove the warrenty sticker so you can put it back without damage after you look.

thanks for the link, I had a look and my manufacture date for the UK is not there, but I think I will just open it and have a look and hopefully it will be a flashable drive.
I hate using the blow-dryer method, sometimes it doesnt work properly and a small amount of the sticker shows signs of damage, anyway, will do this very carefully and have a look.

I checked the numbers, they all match, okay, Im going to open up the console now.
I have a question though, Im going to put the drive in mode B using the slax CD, once its in Mode B, I dont turn of the 360, only reboot the computer into windows right? If I turn the 360 off, then the mode B will go off? Also, will the slax method definitely work to get the drive into mode B?

Slax will put a 0059DJ in modeB with 2 PCI SATA cards (that I personally can vouch for) the SIL3112 and the VIA 6421a.
The only bad thing is you will probably be banned from Live if you don't wait for the ixtreme for Hitachi FW.

Im using a VIA 6421A, ok thats good, opened the 360, didnt damage the sticker, and YEAH!!! its a 59DJ drive, thanks a lot mate, now to the flashing. Will report back with results later on. :D
Once again, thanks, I wouldn't have opened it if I didn't have slight chance it would be flashable.

What firmware should I flash my drive with 0059DJ drive with?
Is the Maximus-Garyopa_XTRM-HITACHI_v2_3_Stealth_Rev2 firmware okay?

I looked at the tutorial for the hitachi drive, and it says you flash the drive using the flash24s command in dos, don't I need to backup the original firmware first, if so, how do I do this, and also, how do I insert the original key, the tutorial does not specify how to do this.
Thanks

Does it do any of these
2. With all methods, it should take two presses of the eject button
to either open or close the DVD tray.
3. With all methods, when you eject the drive back in using the
eject button, it should auto-eject back open a second later.
4. Obviously, if the drive shows up in Windows, then it is in
ModeB.
